Yahoo To Close Yahoo Auctions
Yahoo has announced that they will be closing Yahoo Auctions in the United States and Canada as of June 16, 2007. Yahoo Auctions will continue in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan.
Clearly, Yahoo has thrown in the towel when it comes to fighting eBay in the auction space, Instead, the company recently partnered up even more closely with eBay through a deal on eBay checkout.
Here is the timeline of events:
- Last day to list an item: June 3, 2007
- Listings will not auto re-submit after June 3, 2007. (This could mean that your listings may not be submitted 5 times)
- Last day to Bid/Buy: June 16, 2007
- Last day to access remaining site tools such as My Account: October 29, 2007
Yahoo bangs gavel down on auction sites from News.com has analysis commentary from Steve Weinstein saying:
The site didn't seem to get much traction. And they do have a good working relationship with eBay now...Given that it wasn't really doing much for Yahoo it makes sense for them to focus on other areas.

Just as well, I suppose. Most of what I saw while shopping Yahoo Auctions were sellers with 50% or below positive feedback (that wouldn't fly on Ebay) or selling obviously pirated software ($50 for Dreamweaver Studio? C'mon)
