YouTube API, Mobile & iGoogle Gadget

Over the weekend, we had several articles on YouTube come out, including ones talking about YouTube working on a new API, a new mobile platform and even an iGoogle Gadget.

Google readying new YouTube API from Infoworld.com reports Google is working on a new API for YouTube. The new API will enable YouTube video users the ability to manipulate videos to create unique mashups. The new API will use the Google Data (GData) standard and will replace the current YouTube API. You can submit your YouTube API developer requests at Google Groups.

YouTube co-founder Chen: Site coming to mobile phones from the San Jose Mercury News reports Steve Chen, YouTube's co-founder, saying that YouTube videos will play on mobile phones by next year.

This morning, the YouTube Blog wrote a post called "Aye YouTube on iGoogle" but then removed it. A Google Blogoscoped Forums post has a screen capture of the post, which reads that YouTube released a Google Gadget that can be added to iGoogle. The Google Gadget was located at youtube.com/rss/global/ and supposedly gave you the ability to search YouTube videos directly from the gadget. I suspect you would be able to preview or view the video within the gadget and even customize the gadget with different themes.
