$5 Million Domain Sale For SEO.com

DotSause.com reports SEO.com has been sold to WashingtonVC for $5 million.

The new domain will be for an SEO company led by Dave Bascom, who currently runs an SEO company named Web Targeted and blog named Search Trends.

Dave Bascom said on his blog:

I'm SUPER excited about this change and look forward to the challenge of taking this SEO company to a much higher level. We've still got the same great team of SEO experts, plus a few new faces. SEO.com will continue to be a search engine optimization firm, but our website will also offer lots of good stuff like SEO resources, tools, articles, tips, and insight into the SEO/SEM industry.

You can currently find Web Targeted's web site on the SEO.com domain name.

Hat tip to V7N.

Postscript: Michael Mann, founder WashingtonVC, gave me a statement on the validity of the price of the domain name:

The validity of any transactions of WashingtonVC can only be verified by the company itself. Any information posted online about SEO.com, WebTargeted, or BuyDomains.com did not come from us. In this case we do in fact own an excellent SEO company called SEO.com and another excellent SEO company called Yield Software. All other information you have read is specious.

Wow.

I just can't see how seo.com can be worth that much. Although I admit it will cause awareness of the name immediately, but come on!!! 5 million... wow.

You have to be kidding right… 5 mil for seo.com, hardly seems worth it to me. No offence to the person who paid that kind of money but in my mind any SEO worth investing 5 mil on better be able to rank in any search engine for that term regardless of the domain. I mean come on… armed with that kind of scrilla you could buy enough links to rank for absolutely anything. Sorry but the person who sold you that domain didn’t see you coming – they sent for ya!

Is there any irony in the fact that as of this writing they are maintaining mirror copies of their site on both http://www.seo.com and http://www.webtargeted.com ? Isn't the 301 Moved Permanently redirect a core part of basic SEO?? Spending $5 mil does not an expert make...

I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that SEO just sold on http://www.MillionDollarWiki.com
