Superpages Now Offers Compare Merchants Feature

Today Superpages formally rolled out a compare merchants feature. In doing so it becomes the second major US yellow pages publisher to offer that feature in its online directory. DexKnows, owned by R.H. Donnelley and powered by Local Matters' "destination search" platform, has offered the feature for some time.

This article is part of Local Search Week here at Search Engine Land, a special look at local search marketing issues in the run-up to our SMX Local & Mobile conference next month.

The Superpages compare feature is like that found on product comparison search engines and allows for side-by-side comparisons of up to eight merchants.

Here's an example of the functionality for the search "Florists, San Francisco":

The new upgrade on Superpages is part of an ongoing expansion of features and capabilities on the site, which has recently introduced video advertising, personalization, a Facebook application and more mobile options. The company has also been aggressively syndicating its listings to third parties online and in mobile.

Superpages executives will be speaking at SMX Local & Mobile.

Wow. Two articles featuring florists in local search on the same day. :)

It's odd that Rossi & Rovetti's San Francisco address and driving directions link are missing from that comparison page. Both are displayed in their listing.

I'll also take a guess that delivery charges from Santa Barbara's HeartsBloom to San Francisco might be a tad higher than the cost from an SF florist. Their payment method (personal check or cash only) may hinder conversion, too.

Sounds like a good time for local businesses to check and update our superpages.com listings beyond the basics.
