YouTube Insight: View Your YouTube Video Statistics

The YouTube Blog and Google Blog announced YouTube Insight, YouTube's new video statistics area.

In short, additional statistics are now available to users who upload videos to YouTube. You can get stats on the number of views per day your video received, where those viewers are in the world, and how popular your video is compared to other videos in a given period of time.

Let me drill down deeper into the stats and show you screen captures of the stats from my weekly video recaps at the Search Engine Roundtable. I took a video I published on March 7th named Search Buzz Roundup - RIP Ask.com, Google Sitewide Search & Siloing Debate to get some historical data.

To access your stats, you go to the my videos page and click the "about this video" button. The top of the page shows you the overview details:

If you scan your eyes down and to the left, you see a views chart that plots the views for the date range selected. Here are the views for the video I produced on March 7th; notice the majority of the views were on that day and then it dwindled down:

If you then scan your eyes to the right, you see a map that darkens the countries by views. The darker the country, the more views from that country. As you can see, USA is where most the viewers of that video were located when they watched the video.

If you scan back towards the views chart, you can change it from "Views" to "Popularity." It basically charts how popular your video is compared to the other videos for that time frame:

You can also drill down into each country and see deeper insight into your views by country. For example, here is the USA map. You can see that California has the most views, then New York, probably because I post the videos Friday at noon EST and who wants to watch a video before they leave work? Only those that are just starting their days, e.g., if you are in California:

What is really nice is the views and popularity chart on the left changes based on what country or state you select. For example, here is me selecting New York; notice the views chart looks different from the one above:

Finally, I do have a nice showing of viewers in Israel, based on the middle east chart:

Very nice job, YouTube. This makes me as excited as the Flickr Stats launch in December.

In any event, if you haven't subscribed to my YouTube channel, make sure to do so and also check out the Search Buzz Roundups -- I do offer prizes.
