Insightful to be sure but I am not so big on Google News anymore. Certainly when I owned PRWeb it was a tremendous boost for traffic. You used to be able to track significant conversions through Google News. Those days are behind us. Now, no matter which press release service you use, it seems like Google News generates very little traffic, regardless of how well the story ranks in the SERPS.

Another problem with Google News traffic that nobody seems to talk about is very low time on page and extremely high bounce rates.

I am dumping more of my efforts into other more fruitful content discovery sources and getting far better traffic.

Really informative and in-depth article. It seems the guidlines are pretty stringent though (aren’t all of G’s?). David mentioned the traffic from GNews having high bounce rates and low time on page. I’d be curious to know your thoughts on this Rick, Thanks for the share.

Concept how should we have to apply for Google news is interesting. I really like it and will try for my domain.

    Great info Rick.

I would like to point out one thing – the mix of images and articles side by side on the results page is intended, not “confusion”. See the second to the last paragraph here: https://support.google.com/news/publisher/answer/13369?hl=en
