hspace="5" vspace="3" width="100" height="100">
Now that the “who attended which conference this week” gossip chatter is over, we have a bigger question: Who is attending Larry Page’s wedding today? As previously reported, Larry is getting married today, and Searcharazzi is reporting to you live from an undisclosed location at the island location, if only in our minds.

In any case, Searcharazzi has spent the better half of the month gathering the details of Larry’s and Lucy Southworth’s pending nuptials, to be hosted by Richard Branson on Necker Island. A special thanks to Valleywag’s spies for keeping a virtual wedding planner with all the details. Here are some of the juicier bits:

Celeb guests, why John Battelle and Al Gore won’t attend, and the surprise best man after the jump…

The San Fran Chronicle first pegged the wedding date as December 8.

Lucy’s sister is actress Carrie Southworth, who is married to Coddy Johnson, the field director of George W. Bush’s 2004 presidential campaign , who is in turn the son of George W’s Yale roommate, Clay Johnson. Oh, and Coddy’s also the Prez’s godson.

While it is rumored that a total of three presidents will attend the wedding, Al Gore will not, as he will receive his Nobel Peace Prize at a ceremony in Oslo, Norway, the following Monday. While that’s a better excuse than “I have to wash my hair,” there are numerous reports of private planes being sent around the globe to fetch guests.

Today, the Times Online revealed that the Clintons will not be attending, as the Mrs. is in Iowa campaigning. It has been rumored that President Carter will.

The guest list of 600 also includes Bono, but not John Battelle, who will reportedly be at a friend’s birthday in Morocco. Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp will also make an appearance. Oh, and all the guests have singed confidentiality agreements.

And while Reuters says that Branson is to be the best man, Valleywag raised some questions on why Larry’s brother or Sergey were passed over, if this is true.

While we were pretty sure that AKQA would get the deal, it looks like the CMS won out. The Interwoven website is now serving up a page specifically on the deal, stating:

With Optimost, we will be able to offer the most advanced solution for accelerating conversion rates and online sales as well as enhanced capabilities for providing targeted content to Website visitors.

Visitors to the page can also download the a podcast on the subject from Max Carnecchia, President of Interwoven.

The deal is expected to be completed at the end of the year.

<img border="0" src="http://searchengineland.com/images/searcharazzi.jpg"

While Google events are a known entity for those in the search crowd, the rest of the world is now getting a taste. In an effort to craft more targeted events, parties now focus on a single vertical. From a sales perspective, this most certainly makes sense. However, the recent “Press Party” held on October 3 seems to have backfired.

The premise: get hot consumer publications to write about how sexy Google tech can be. But come on, did Google really think it could so easily sway a room full of devils that wear Prada? Do Googlers know what Prada is? PR was definitely entering into dangerous territory by inviting fashion rags such as Vogue France, not to mention gossip rags like Star. A shout out to Valleywag for calling this one early.

The bad press started as early as August, when Page Six wrote “It’s not a ‘media party,’ ” one invitee snickered. “It’s a party for horny tech nerds who want cute girls to show up.”

Read some of the attendees’ harsh comments after the jump.

The dis-invitation of Silicon Alley Insider editor Dan Frommer also sent tongues a-waggin’. He was later re-invited.

For all the talk leading up to the event, one would think that the PR team would have figured out how to exploit the buzz. This is one case where the Google “we will do it our way” approach fell flat. The excessive security, Google cafeteria food, and overall dress code of Googlers did not impress.

Some of the harsher comments included describing some senior Google execs’ outfits as “hideous.” Julia Allison, editor of Star, had much to say, ultimately summing it up with “Their stupid event had NO FREAKING POINT.” Her undercover party crashing friend from Gawker had similar thoughts.

Anyone have notes from the inside? Do tell.

As fall settles in, another chill is in the air. Rumor has it that a top tier search and interactive services shop is about to have a management shake-up. M&A in the space appears to have slowed down as shops that should have taken their first offer decided to keep on trucking.

So what exactly is going on, folks? Bubble bursting? Or are we still very early in the game?

Valleywag suggests that lots of cheese varieties mean that the bubble is still growing.

An attendee at the EmTech conference reception Wednesday afternoon — okay, okay, my boss — noted that he hadn’t “seen that many kinds of cheese at a party since 2000.” Today the Financial Times observed that in 1998 the Federal Reserve was forced to cut rates because of credit issues and the biggest boom in history followed. So, is all this merely boom-times deja vu or a real indication of the state of the tech economy? All I’ll say is if you missed your chance to cash out the first time around, the cheese barometer says to act now, before the opportunities become a bit too well-aged.

While Henry Blodget of Silicon Alley Reporter points to a coming burst in this commentary and timeline of events:

We continue to believe that we may be in the first stages of a cyclical downturn for advertising and the Internet sector–one that could affect not only start-ups and second-tier players but majors like Google (GOOG), Yahoo (YHOO), AOL, et al. Such downturns do not begin suddenly, and they are not instantly obvious (except in hindsight). Rather, as with the housing market, the environment changes gradually, over many months, with early signs slowly becoming a steady torrent of bad news.

Blodget does suggest that there is always the possibility that this is just a blip. What do you think, dear readers?

PowerPoint haters unite! So, Techcrunch says that The Inquirer says that Google is thiiiiiiiis close to launching Presently, a web-based alternative to PowerPoint. With consulting firm CapGemini now pushing Google Apps hard, can we finally say goodbye to Microsoft’s Office Suite?

Some speculate that the app will be unveiled next week at TechCruch 40 (formerly TechCrunch 20, but I guess the start up life is going well). After all, Google is on the list of Who’s Coming, as is rival Microsoft Corporation. Interestingly, the speaker that caught our attention is MC Hammer. Yes, folks, The Hammer.

If the Presently rumor is true, Searcharazzi suggests that they scrap the current keynote and have The Hammer, Marissa Mayer and Michael Moritz put on a little show of “U Can’t Touch This” for the Microsoft team.
This morning Omniture announced that it has agreed to buy Offermatica and sidekick division OTTO Digital for $65 million. Still waiting to hear from the ranks as to whether this was too much, too little, or just right. As if that’s not enough “O’s” for you, Optimost, another landing page optimization firm, is also been rumored to be on the block.

As for the E, Chris Zaharias announced a few weeks back that he has left SEM Efficient Frontier, also known as eFrontier. While this might not be “new” news, Searcharazzi got wind that this is actually the second time he has left the firm. No details on his next steps, but we’re banking on a new start up.

Coleman is out, and president Sue Decker rises to the top. Hilary Schneider (is it possible that she is Decker’s long lost twin?) smugly rules ad sales and partnerships (Global Partner Solutions), leaving Jeff Weiner to run content (Yahoo! Network Division). According to a Valleywag tipster, these two hate each other’s guts.

Ok, they didn’t say that. But they did point out that Weiner had won back the territories that Schneider had briefly run, resulting in a year-over-year revenue drop of 10-15%. However, Weiner must “partner” with Schneider for any real deals. One can only imagine the boardroom meeting where lands were divided and the treaty was drawn. Oh, to be a fly on the wall.

Greg Sterling offers very detailed notes of the drama.

Searcharazzi, on the other hand, goes straight to nasty blog comments to see how employees, former employees, and people with way too much time have been fueling this fire. Our favorite to date comes from Kara Swisher’s editorial picks.

Now we’ve got a CEO who has never been CEO before (Jerry Yang). A COO with limited operations experience (Sue Decker). A CFO who has never been a CFO in his life (Blake Jorgensen) and an EVP of Ad Sales with no sales experience (Hilary Schneider). Next, I think we’ll hire a CTO who is well versed in arts and culture with no prior tech experience (Still a mystery)

Speaking of the powers that be, it has been widely assumed that Decker will eventually take on the CEO title as well. So what might be next for CEO Yang? Rumors are circulating that he is joining his co-founder to build up the new inflatable balloon division. Or maybe that’s some more hot reorganization air.

Now for a word of advice to all of those teary Yahoo! underlings who have spent their summer both polishing the resume and watching their backs as their bosses fall from high. Check out KickStart, your firm’s latest social networking effort. You just might score a new job.

Ever since Caltech graduate student Virgil Griffith launched Wiki Scanner, it has been nonstop fun freaking out PR people everywhere. While Wired’s list of salacious edits has everyone abuzz, Searcharazzi still enjoys good, old-fashioned wiki sleuthing, as brought to our attention yesterday.

Apparently someone representing FAST Search & Transfer has been modifying facts regarding the firm’s recent and well-documented revenue recognition problems. So here you go folks, straight from the Talk:Fast Search & Transfer page on Wikipedia, we have an Appalachian-style wiki feud in the making, right down to the spelling.

“Would the vandal or PR person removing information from these pages please stop. It is a matter of record that FAST had a share price crash of 28% when they made a statment that they had needed to change their accounting approaches. The press release is on the comapny site. This is a meterial piece of information about the company.”

Can’t we all just get along?

Face it, sessions are great for learning, but no place to get good scoop. For those heading to San Jose, mother of all Search Engine Strategies shows, here is a cheat sheet on where to get the best scoop. I leave it to the spies to leave good stuff in the comments.

The Pre-Pre-Party. Could it be true that the drinking (and gossip) will start as early as Saturday, August 18th at a bar called The Liberties in San Francisco? Clearly veterans and locals with enough dirt to start a garden.

The Women’s Luncheon. There are a reported 50-60 women gathering on Monday for lunch, which undoubtedly means that there will be some serious dishing. We would try to get in, but afraid of the gender check at the door. Tips from infiltrators and spies are more than welcome.

Monday Afternoon at the San Jose Convention Center. The alcohol will flow freely for speakers from 4:30-6:00pm on a lovely terrace, at which point a good number will head over to the open bar at the SEMPO The Search is Right Night. If we’ve done our math right, five beers is definitely enough to get tongues wagging.

The 6th Annual Google Dance. Ok, so it’s not so much scoop as it is fun to see your straight-laced colleagues, boss, clients and employees Rock it at the Google Dance. Digital cameras are a must for this event. And remember, what goes on the web, stays on the web.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Private Parties. We’d say more, but, uh, they’re private.
