bing-mobile-featuredAfter releasing a number of new updates for the Windows Phone 8 yesterday, Bing announced today it has launched News, Sports, Weather and Finance apps for the phone as well. Originally released for Windows 8 last October, the mobile versions offer a new collection of apps for Windows Phone 8 users.

Bing News App

Bing has partnered with a number of national, local and region news sources, including Associated Press, Reuters, Gizmodo and The Guardian, to deliver a customizable news app that lets users track specific story categories, topics or sources. Users can rearrange headline clusters to move preferred content to the top.

Bing is also leveraging Live Tiles on the Windows Phone so that users can see news at-a-glance and pin favorite news sources or topics to the start screen for quick access to preferred content.

Bing Sports App

The new mobile Sports app offers a variety of customized content. Users can personalize the app to track specific leagues or teams. If a user taps on a team or league, the app color theme will change depending on the sport (“green turf for NFL, brown dirt for MLB, grey asphalt for Formula 1 racing”).

Covering a number of major sports like soccer, football, baseball, cricket, racing, tennis, hockey and basketball, the Bing Sports app lets users swipe through a wide variety of content, including:

  • Recent scores
  • Top sports headlines
  • Videos
  • Photos
  • Schedules
  • Standings
  • Statistics

Using the Live Tiles, favorite teams can also be pinned to a user’s Start screen, offering instant access to team information with one tap on sports tile.

Bing Weather App

The Bing Weather app for the Windows Phone 8 dynamically updates a Live Tile with weather information based on a user’s location. By pinning a Weather app tile to the Start screen, users can see live weather dates. Tapping the tile will deliver detailed information, from hourly to 10-day forecasts and monthly averages.

Users can follow weather conditions with dynamic maps for cities or regions, with access to a number of categories, including satellite, temperature, precipitation, cloud cover and radar. Drill downs are also available to see daily weather conditions, historical data, and temperature and precipitation charts.

Bing Finance App

The Bing Finance app allows users to create a watchlist for tracking stocks, with the ability to pin individual stocks to the Start screen using the Live Tile feature. The Finance app includes market info, currency conversions, timely US stock updates and customizable interactive charts.

By tapping a stock, users can see a performance overview, stock statistics, company news and information. Financial news may also be personalized by selecting a preferred news source, including Bloomberg, CNBC and Fox Business.
