Bing News Expands To Your Facebook Feed With Customizable App

Bing News wants to be your go-to place for finding out what’s going on in the world today, whether it be the sports world, financial world, or your local world. But social media — and Facebook, especially — is where a lot of us find and share important links and headlines.

So how does Bing become a bigger part of the news discovery experience on Facebook?

There’s an app for that.

Bing has announced a new My Bing News Facebook app that essentially brings Bing News search to your Facebook experience.

My Bing News is a customizable news page that lives on Facebook and lets users subscribe to generic topics like “Politics” or “Sports,” and/or create more specific topics like “Seattle Seahawks” or “U2.”

Bing says users can choose how and what gets shared — it can be individual articles, comments on articles, or entire topics.

How does this on Facebook app benefit users? It seems all the same social functionality could be offered on Bing.com/news, with a greater amount of site real estate.

There are significantly more people on Facebook than Bing News at any given time, so it’s theoretically easier for them to access this without having to leave Facebook.

(I think that would be Bing’s answer.) :-)

It’s a good step toward social media integration. Facebook has more traffic than Bing, or at the very least, people check their Facebook accounts more often than they do Bing’s homepage, which makes this a very advantageous move for the search engine.

It should be really good once facebook complete their search engine.. it did state somewhere in an apparent leak online and on twitter that Facebook’s New Search Engine is going to be called Fearch.com ! That’s not a bad rival name to Google IMO.. I can already hear them adverts everywhere and ppl in movies saying it.. just fearch it! :) x

But the thing is, I don’t want Bing’s idea of what’s “news”; instead, I want to have a customizable news page where I select what news sources I want to include on my page. As long as I keep getting forcefed what some small team in Bing decides is “news,” I have no interest in this. And I’m sure I’m not alone.
