When the new iPhone operating system came out, version 3.0, mobile Safari was able to pass your location to the browser. Google recently updated the iPhone version of Google to allow searchers to send Google their location, which should help make the search results more tailored to that searcher.

When I first looked at how this worked, it wasn’t exactly clear. So I wanted to take you through how to let Google obtain your location on the iPhone mobile Safari.

(1) Go to google.com on your iPhone browser and then click on “preferences” when you are signed in:

Google My Location iPhone

(2) Select “Yes” on “Allow use of device location”:

Google My Location iPhone

(3) Google will then load your last location, if they have it and ask you if you want to update that location. Click on “update” to do so.

Google My Location iPhone

(4) Then Apple asks you if Safari has your permission to grab your location:

Google My Location iPhone

(5) Then Apple asks you if Google has your permission to grab your location:

Google My Location iPhone

(6) Then you see Google acquiring your location…

Google My Location iPhone

(7) Finally, Google updates with your new location and then allows you to update that location manually again, if you like.

Currently, this is supported for iPhones in English in the US and UK.
