The Google News Blog announced that they will now display quotes within articles when they think your query and the content warrants it.

For example, a search on Google’s CEO, Eric Schmidt, returns a quote at the top of the Google News search page. Here is a screen capture:

Google News Quote Search

You can see that the latest quote from Eric Schmidt that Google News has found is listed at the top of the results. If you click on the link “by Eric Schmidt” on the lower right corner of the quote, you will be taken to more quotes from Eric Schmidt derived from various articles.

Then, if you want to find specific quotes from Eric Schmidt on a specific topic, you can. In the left panel, at the bottom of this page, you can “Search these quotes.” For example, if you want to find quotes from Schmidt on “mobile,” just add that to your query and presto.

This new feature only returns “recent quotes,” I suspect within 30 days or so. It would be nice for the advanced new search to contain a feature to search for quotes only by name or search phrase. In addition, this would be a wonderful feature to add to Archive News Search.
