Google Officially Testing Images In Web Search Results Snippets

google logo - basic 570x270Google has confirmed they are running a user interface in the search results to show images within the web search snippets.

Reader, Samuel Edwards from Tenthwave Digital sent us a screen shot of this unusual Google search results test. A Google spokesperson confirmed this is indeed one of Google’s many tests.

Here is a picture showing how Google is inserting images from the page directly on the search results:

A Google spokesperson told us, “As you know, we’re always running experiments with the look and feel of search — this is one of those.”

Indeed, Google is always testing and experimenting but this test is one of the more bold attempts to making the search results a bit more graphical.

If Google rolls this test out to a broader audience, I wonder if it will be only triggered by searches likely to yield graphic results. It could be a good reason to consider using structured markup(i.e. itemprop=”image”)

This is going to kill CTR on the paid rails so there is no way this sticks around.
