Google’s head of search, Amit Singhal, tweeted early this morning that he was at a local Starbucks and overheard a conversation that proved to him that Google’s latest updates were doing their job.

He tweeted:

Search Engine Journal has a story from Glenn Gabe where he shared his experience talking to a classroom of 13 year olds in a local middle school. He discussed how Google works and even talked about the Penguin and Panda updates.

After his presentation he received a package of letters from some of the students with notes about his presentation and what impact it made on them. He quoted some for everyone to see:

I never knew much about blogs and how writing has to be high quality on the internet. I learned that it is extremely important to write effective information on the web, or it will be wiped off the internet by Pandas.

What I found really interesting was the use of Panda and Penguin algorithm updates by Google. I also learned that just because a website ranked #1 in Google doesn’t mean it’s there because of how reliable it was, but because of their money.

I found Amit’s and Glenn’s stories as a sign of the growth of the SEO industry and how significant SEO, Google and search is in every day life for every day people.
