Google Blogoscoped reports that Google is testing the placement of one box results within the middle of the search results. We have seen Google test “search refinements” within the middle of the search results, but never really one box results, at least not in this separated form. It is not just video results found in these middle of the page sections; another screen capture shows shopping results as well.
Google, of course, has Universal Search, which replaces the search results, when relevant, with vertical results – such as video, shopping, news, and so on. So, I am not sure why Google is testing this implementation. Maybe it is because they are finding the universal search user interface is confusing the searcher…I really don’t know, but I will try to get a comment from Google.
