Danny recently reported Google that Google gained a new, unofficial tag line. Now Yahoo has come out pushing a new mission statement:
To connect people to their passions, communities, and the world’s knowledge.
The statement is for Yahoo’s new Yahoo Network Division. Jeff Weiner, the EVP who leads the division, explains in detail what this new mission statement means for Yahoo and the Yahoo culture.
It is interesting that the FUSE (i.e. Find, Use, Share, and Expand) “vision” statement that Yahoo Search has pushed hard over the last year or so seems to have been abandoned. For more on the FUSE vision statement, see John Battelle’s blog where he explained:
When you think about Yahoo’s search mission as an organizing principle, a lot of what Yahoo is doing – 360, MyWeb, Y!Q, the purchase of Flickr – start to fall into place. Weiner calls his vision FUSE (for Find, Use, Share, and Expand) and it’s an apt metaphor – using search to fuse a myriad of services and applications, all of which center on knowledge and its application.
