    I think this is crazy crap. I am sorry, but it is. Writers should be able to write wherever they want and who gives a crap about the guest posting rules by Google (love you for some things, but for this you are way off base). This is exactly why bloggers need to begin to shift to other sources of traffic and look at the other search engines out there and other companies who embrace them (Twitter, Pinterest, even Facebook) and move away form relying on Google. I will write for anyone who will have me and I am not stopping anytime soon for any reason. It’s our Internet too — it doesn’t just belong to Google.

    I’m sure Matt Cutts would find it well in favor to pitch an Ad Words campaign as being the added alternative to Guest blogging in order to drive traffic to your website. If all you’re doing is Guest blogging to drive traffic to your website (and it’s working) keep Guest blogging!

    There is a trend among major marketing agencies to offer
    guest blogging as a link-building service. In most cases, these blog posts are
    high quality material on high quality blogs, however the actual purpose of
    these content is to get back links for the clients. There authors are good, but
    not necessarily actual experts in a field. This seems to be working very well,
    but it seems like a pretty clear adjustment.

    Give it another 6 months they will have changed their mind and all sites who have done guest blogging will end up with a penalty for unnatural inbound links going off the history of Google and their constant changing ways without any consideration for the past where it was acceptable or even advised to do it.

    You are totally free to write whatever you want, wherever you want. But if you’re clearly “writing” garbage for the sole purpose of trying to get links, don’t expect to get good results.

    As someone who runs several top blogs I disagree. Your traffic does not have to come from Google. I’ve seen companies sell more with Pinterest, email marketing and affiliate relationships. Writers should be able to write anywhere and guest blogging is an important part of that equation. The problem with relying too much on Google is the changes that make often throw the baby out with the bathwater, and to be honest search was MUCH better before Panda. Now I find more spam sites than ever before. You could also argue that Google Plus is important to your online tactics as well, but unless your audience is hanging out there (mostly male educated tech geeks) no one cares about your influence there and if Plus never really takes off… then what? Google made search changes that hurt a lot of small online businesses and now I encourage them to diversify and find their real audience outside of relying on Google.
