I wondered how browsing was going to work on Google Glass and this explains it. I literally can’t wait to get my hands on a pair of these glasses!

  • Matt McGee

It’s like a timeline. There’s a home screen (the clock with “ok glass”) and you can swipe to the right or left. (Forward or back is Google’s terminology.)

To the left are the Google Now cards and one last card for settings (wifi, etc.).

To the right are all the cards related to the apps you use. So I see cards from CNN, Twitter, Gmail, etc.

Also to the right are the cards created by your own actions. So I also see cards related to all the searches I’ve done, and I can click to recreate those. If I take a photo or video, it shows to the right of the home screen and I can click to share or delete, etc.

I love how you got all the U2 lines in the article :-)
And very jealous you got to use them. It looks like they are off to a reasonably good start but there’s a lot to improve so it Seems?

Thanks for the insight Matt. All this info just really makes me want to get a pair of them on and give them a test drive. I’m hoping they’re available in the UK by next winte, just in time for the skiing season :)

  • Matt McGee

Yeah, I think that’s a good assessment, Bas. Lots of potential. Lots of things Google should be able to add, expand and improve. It’s definitely a beta product now, but the more I use it, the more I like it. The additions of the Twitter and Facebook apps make it much more consumer-friendly, I think.

And thx for noticing my bad U2 puns. ;-)

Will be interesting to see what the crazy Glass developers come up with.

“google” is the only word that starts a search. You can’t say “okay glass, search” or “okay glass, find” … it’s “google” followed by your search query. – Brainwash…..

  • Hemanth Malli

Wow.. that’s interesting. Good to know about Google glass .” okay, glass find” then the search begins !! Thanks for the insightful post !!

I wonder what the pair Sergey is wearing – you know they can do probably 100x more than what the public market is going to get!

  • Matt McGee

Yeah, I was wondering about that, too. What I’d like to know is how much Glass has advanced since he did the big skydive thing at last year’s I/O conference.

  • Matt McGee

Did you actually read the article? I specifically said that you CAN’T use “find” to start a search. You have to say “okay glass, google…..”

Rofl some people just can’t read I guess! Or they chose to see what they want to see rather then what was written!?

  • Hemanth Malli

“Glass Google” quite interesting and i am really crazy about it. How you collected all these points. Amazing and innovative article. Keep sharing..

This is all great information–frankly it has me wanting Glass quite a bit more. I can now see a lot of utility for it, where before I’d only seen the downsides (privacy) and a slightly cheesy and expensive gimmick.

I do wonder how it works while driving. Would it get in my way for getting directions, or would it give me an easy map to glance up to and follow?

  • Matt McGee

Carmine — I don’t find it intrusive while driving, but I’ve seen others say the opposite. Might be a matter of personal preference/taste.
