John Steinbeck Google Logo Showcases Author’s Work On His 112th Birthday

Today’s Google logo is a well deserved nod to American author John Steinbeck on what would have been the writer’s 112th birthday. The logo celebrates five of Steinbeck’s 27 novels: Grapes of Wrath, Canary Row, Of Mice and Men, The Pearl and Travels with Charlie.

The Steinbeck logo includes blocks for five of the Google letters that transition into book titles, with a play button in place of the second “G” in Google:

Each of the slides includes a search icon that delivers “John Steinbeck” search results and a share icon that lets users post the logo on their Twitter, Facebook and Google+ pages.

Born on this date in 1902 in Salinas, California, Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath published in 1939 earned the novelist a National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize. In 1962, Steinbeck was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature. Acclaimed for his depictions of the American working class, Steinbeck’s novels continue to be studied in high schools and colleges across the US.
