Dead Girl On Google Street View? No, Just A Game

Imagine clicking through your neighborhood's Google Street View photos and finding this: If you think you're looking at the body of a dead girl, so did people who live on Middle Road in Worcester, England. But, as the Daily Mail reports, it's just a ten-year-old named Azura Beebeejaun who happened to be "playing dead" with a friend when Google's car drove down her street. Sure enough, if you pull back to the nearest street corner and zoom in a bit, you can see Azura sitting up on the sidewalk. The pictures were taken last summer and published online in March. You can see them her [...]

WATCH! Google Street View Camera Falls Off Car

Add this to the list of funny and interesting things that Google Street View cameras have recorded -- a camera capturing its own demise. I spotted one of Google's Street View cars apparently losing its camera near where I live, in Suffern, New York. Everything's fine as the car travels westbound on Haverstraw Road (you can try this out yourself here): As you click "forward" to advance along the route, suddenly the camera leans: Then it leans more: And keeps going: After that, everything's back to normal. What's weird is that if you look at the "before" frame a [...]

Woman Follows Google Maps “Walking” Directions, Gets Hit, Sues

Is Google responsible for giving out bad directions through its Google Maps service? We're about to find out. After Googling walking directions for a trip in Park City, Utah, Lauren Rosenberg claims she was led onto a busy highway, where she was struck by a vehicle. She's now suing Google for damages. The case, Rosenberg v. Harwood, was filed in Utah, in the US District Court's Central Division (Gary Price of ResourceShelf tipped us to it today). Harwood is Patrick Harwood, the person who actually hit Rosenberg, according to the suit. Both Harwood and Google are being sued in the same case, [...]

Insert Coin, Play Pac-Man — In The Google Logo! A 30th Anniversary Tribute

Over the years, I've played Pacman on platforms from the original coin-operated arcade game, to my PC, my Xbox, my PSP, my Nintendo DS and the iPhone. I never expected I could add playing Pacman inside the Google logo to the list. Now I can, and so can you, in a special Google "Doodle" out today. Today's Google Pacman logo goes far beyond any special logo that Google has done before. Believe me, I know. I've been up close and personal with Google logos as part of my recent story, Those Special Google Logos, Sliced & Diced, Over The Years. This is the first time people have [...]

Offensive Michelle Obama Image Returns, Google Buys Ad To Explain

Google is buying ads to explain why an offensive image of the First Lady is back in its index and ranking so highly on searches for Michelle Obama in Google Image Search. As we reported last week, Google had originally removed the Michelle Obama image on the grounds that the site hosting the image violated Google's guidelines by serving malware to visitors. But the same image remained available on other sites that hadn't run afoul of the rules. Google's ad, shown above, leads searchers to, which apologizes to users who've "had an upsetting experienc [...]
