Google’s “Step Inside AdWords” News: Features For App Ads, More UI Tools, No Wild Surprises

google-adwords-600 Anticipation has been running high among paid search marketers about what today's AdWords announcement -- dubbed "Step Inside AdWords -- might hold, since Google began teasing the news. However, any fears of drastic changes in the vein of last year's move to enhanced campaigns will be quelled -- to a still calm. Google AdWords product management VP, Jerry Dischler, shared several new initiatives with a select set of customers at the AdWords Performance Forum, being shared via livestream at noon Eastern Time today. The new features and tools will be rolling out of beta to all AdWords user [...]

Bing Predicts Reality Show Winners Using New “Bing Predictions” Search Technology

prediction-crystall-ball-guess-600 Bing announced today it is launching Bing Predictions, a new feature that uses search query data and social signals to predict outcomes and events. To kick-off its latest technology, Bing is applying its new search feature to predict the results of voting-based reality shows like The Voice, American Idol and Dancing with the Stars. Users can perform searches on terms like "The Voice Predictions," or "The Voice," or even contestant names like, "Bria Kelly," and Bing will deliver a carousel of a show's contestants along with an estimation of who is winning, as well as which contestants are [...]

Google Slaps Another Guest Blog Network: PostJoint

google-penalty-600 Google's Matt Cutts somewhat confirmed on Twitter that Google has taken action on another guest blogging network. This network is named PostJoint and claims "there's no footprints." Someone tweeted to Matt that PostJoint was penalized. In fact, if you check out Google for a search on their name, their web site no longer ranks on the first page. Matt Cutts this morning confirmed it on Twitter saying "any link or guest blog network that claims to have "zero footprints" is waving a giant red flag." @techtada any link or guest blog network that claims to have "zero footprints [...]

Google Tests Showing Product Ads In Knowledge Graph Carousel Area

test-experiment-trail-600 About a year ago, Google launched the carousel interface to better distribute content from their Knowledge Graph. Well, now, Google is apparently testing showing ads from the paid Google Shopping results in that user interface. Pete Meyers posted on the Moz Google+ page an image of him seeing Google Shopping listings in the carousel for a search on [laptops]. Here is a picture from Pete Meyers of Moz: Pete said that you should notice that "almost everything above the fold is a paid result." Indeed. Google has experimented with showing product listing ads in the knowledge graph [...]

Why Yahoo’s Not Going To Steal The Search Default For iPhone Away From Google

yahoo-featured Apparently, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer wants to be the default search for Apple's Safari browser on iPhone and iPad and has been preparing to make a solid pitch. Well, we all want things we can't have, and I'd be incredibly surprised if Yahoo got its wish here. Kara Swisher over at Re/code has the scoop, in her Marissa Mayer’s Secret Plan to Get Apple to Dump Google and Default to Yahoo Mobile Search story. Be sure to read that. Here, I'm going to share the incredibly tough list of obstacles that would have to be overcome to turn this from a fantasy into reality. Yahoo Has No Search Techn [...]

Zuckerberg: Facebook Graph Search Is “A Five-Year Thing”

facebook-graph-search-600 It's been more than a year since Facebook introduced Graph Search to the world -- its first foray into developing a serious search product for Facebook users. If you think development of Graph Search has been moving at a snail's pace, you're probably not alone. The rollout to all U.S. Facebook users took about seven months. It was almost nine months from the launch until users could search their status updates. And more than a year later, Graph Search still isn't available on mobile. In a new interview with the New York Times, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained that all of this i [...]

Microsoft’s Cortana Assistant Personalization Comes To Bing On The Web

One of the most interesting things about Microsoft's new Cortana search assistant has just gone live for those early adopters of it: integration with Bing's search results. Cortana Personalization Comes To Bing Those using Cortana will now find "personalized cards" that will appear at the bottom of the Bing home page: Personalized information cards will also be integrated into Bing's search results, when deemed relevant. For example, here's how it looks for someone who has flight information being tracked (which Cortana learns about by reading the email on your Windows Phone): Ad [...]

Search Market Share: Yahoo Hits New Low About To Slip Into Single-Digits

us-map-bing-google-yahoo-featured On the heels of Yahoo's Q1 2014 earnings in which its search business showed signs of life, comScore released new monthly search market share figures for the US market. They show Yahoo with 10.1 percent of the market -- a new low for the company. It would appear that Yahoo is continuing its long, slow, market-share decline and about to slip into single-digits for the first time. In absolute numbers, however, Yahoo search query volumes were up. So were Yahoo's rivals. By comparison, Google was flat and Bing was up 0.2 points. It appears that Bing continued to siphon off Yahoo's usage. [...]

The latest tease is short on specifics other than to say Dischler will announce "10+ new AdWords products, features and research studies" developed over the past year. But, with a closer look, there are some hints of what migh [...]
