Screen Shots Of Google Health

Greg Sterling is now at Google for the Google Factory tour and the news is already buzzing about the US launch of Google Health. Greg may swing by and postscript with some of the details he learned from Google's presentation; until then, let me share with you screen captures of Google Health: Postscript from Greg: There's tremendous value in Google Health for consumers. I haven't compared it to its various competitors, however. There is, in the beginning, some fairly heavy lifting involved in getting the personalized information and health records online, whi [...]

Google Health Formally Announced This Morning

Google Health has been an open secret for more than a year. Last week the company announced a pilot program with the Cleveland Clinic as a prelude to a formal announcement of the service. That formal announcement came this morning at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference in Florida, in a keynote from Google CEO Eric Schmidt. Google's Marissa May wrote the Google Blog post this morning on the service. There's also coverage in the Wall Street Journal. Microsoft and Revolution Health, among a few less well-known others, offer personal health profiles online, and [...]

Google Health Readies For Launch, In Test With Cleveland Clinic

The very long awaited Google Health may be about to launch. The New York Times and CNN have reports this morning that Google and the Cleveland Clinic are announcing a pilot program that reportedly will involve the creation of personal health profiles on Google for anywhere between 1,500 and 10,000 patients. These profiles will include health histories and other personal medical data. Microsoft has a similar initiative underway with Health Vault, as does Steve Case's Revolution Health. There are also other companies that offer personal health record storage and services online. The idea of [...]

Google Health Close To Launching?

Philipp Lenssen and Tony Ruscoe at Google Blogoscoped have noted that the login page for Google Health is now live, although the service itself is not (and www.google.com/health currently redirects to the Google Coop page about health). Gabriel Stricker, Google spokesperson, told us: "We're very interested in working on products in the area of health, and we've been blogging and speaking publicly about this for some time. While we have no additional information to share right now, we hope to in the future." At the Web 2.0 conference in October, Marissa Mayer, Vice President, Search Prod [...]

Pew/Internet Study Finds Most Americans Get Their Answers From The Internet

A PEW/Internet and American Life study out today finds that the place Americans turn to most for answers is the internet. The study, which surveyed 2,796 Americans, found that 76% have internet access and that 58% turn to the internet when they have questions about things like health, school, careers, and government issues. The project focused on how people use the internet, libraries, and government resources when they need to solve problems and found that those without high-speed internet access (no access or dial-up only) were less satisfied with their ability to get the answers they were s [...]

Google Health To Launch In Early 2008

Marrisa Mayer, taking over the Google Health initiative from Adam Bosworth, who recently left the company, announced at the Web 2.0 conference yesterday that people could "expect a lot of activity in the coming months," ahead of an early 2008 launch. According to InformationWeek, covering the interview: Speaking at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, Mayer outlined the ways in which the search giant plans to bring its immense data storage and organization capacities to the field of medical care and patient records. Google is already the starting point for a large majority of the health-rel [...]

Google Health’s Adam Bosworth Leaves Google

I got a tip that Google vice president Adam Bosworth, who headed up the Google Health project, had left Google. Now Google has provided me with the first confirmation this is so -- Bosworth is leaving the company. Says Google: Adam is a great talent and was instrumental in starting Google Health. He is now on vacation and has decided to pursue other opportunities after that. Marissa Mayer is taking over the health team in the interim until a new team leader takes over. Google is moving forward with work on our health products. Bosworth joined Google in July 2004, having left BEA Systems. I [...]

But Can You Get Google Health On Your Google Phone?

Last week's rumors about the Gphone not enough for you? Rumors the week before not enough? My Gphone: Google Phone Timeline of rumors over the past three years not enough? Fine. Below are some more, along with a look at the hype build-up for the phone compared to similar hype we had for Google Health. Introducing the Google Phone from the Boston Globe covers Google showing a prototype to a small number of people, with Google itself continuing to say nothing. We learn one prototype had horizontal icon scrolling, wasn't as flashy as the iPhone and had a small QWERTY keyboard. Meanwhile, Om [...]

Google, Microsoft Moving Forward With Health Ventures

The International Herald Tribune reports (story also in the NY Times) on new developments at both Google and Microsoft concerning their health product strategies. The long-rumored Google Health is apparently almost here. (See screenshots at Google Blogoscoped.) Health care-related advertising and marketing is a multi-billion dollar industry in the U.S. and Google and Microsoft are seeking to get a chunk of that spending. There's also high consumer demand for the information. At the same time, however, there are challenging issues surrounding government regulation, as well as issues of consumer [...]

Google Health To Create The Personal Health Record?

Taking the temperature on Google Health from News.com has Vince Kuraitis, principal and founder of healthcare consultants Better Health Technologies, predicting that Google will develop a personal health record. Right now, health records for an individual reside in many locations and it is rare for the patient to know all his or her historical medical information. Kuraitis believes that Google's Adam Bosworth, is working to create a web-based location where patients "own their personal health data." They can then share that information via the web to those that they trust and have confide [...]
