More New Tools From Bing Ads: Change History Graph In The Works

Following up on the new Bing Ads keyword performance visualization tool, Keyword Distribution Graph, Microsoft will soon be rolling out a visualization tool for change history. The Change History Graph will be available in the Web interface and is meant to offer quick visual insight into the effectiveness of your optimization changes. When you hover your mouse over a point in one of the trend lines, you'll see the date and the number of changes made that day. Clicking on that will then display a chart detailing those changes. You can then filter by type of changes made during that t [...]

Why You Should “Bing It On” In Your Online Marketing

Bing commercials have been running rampant on TV lately -- they have amped up their service and definitely have something to prove. Among other things, they're becoming increasingly integrated into Windows 8, possibly increasing public interest in Bing. For many people (online marketers in particular), there is a tendency to forget that Bing even exists -- after all, Google is the head honcho. But market shares are increasing for Bing, having recently risen to above 17%. Bing also has some great things to offer marketers. They currently have a lovely SEO Analyzer, for example, and have [...]

Now Live: Bing Ads Keyword Distribution Graph

After piloting the Keyword Distribution Graph in April, Bing has made its keyword performance visualization tool available to all Bing Ads users. The Keyword Distribution Graph is located under the keywords section in the Bing Ads Web interface. A drop down allows you to view aggregate keyword performance data in trend graphs or by the keyword distribution graphs as shown below. The tool is fun, addictive even. Fortunately it's also practical. Keywords are grouped by performance for multiple metrics, and you can interact with multiple graphs at the same time, drilling into those keyword [...]

SMX Advanced: Microsoft’s Gurdeep Singh Pall Talks About Voice Search, Entities & More

Day two of our SMX Advanced event is getting started with our second keynote event: a conversation with Microsoft's Gurdeep Singh Pall. He's the VP for the Information Platform & Experience team at Microsoft, and is responsible for vision, product strategy and R&D for Bing. Search Engine Land's founding editor, Danny Sullivan, is leading the conversation and we're set to get started. So feel free to follow along below. I'll use "DS" for Danny and "GSP" for Gurdeep as I type. We're going to start with a short presentation from Gurdeep before the conversation part. Bing is doing grea [...]

Here are the numbers -- comparing April and May of 2013 as well as May 2012: Google: 66.7 percent (May) vs. 66.5 percent (April) vs. 66.7 percent (May 2012) Bing: 17.4 percent (May) vs. 17.3 percent (April) vs. 15.4 percent (May 2012) Yahoo: 11.9 percent (May) vs. 12 percent (April) vs. 13.4 percent (May 2012) Ask: Google: 2.7 percent (May) vs. 2.7 percent (April) vs. 3 percent ( [...]

Apple Makes Bing The “Default Search Engine” For Siri

One of the things that you might have missed if you weren't paying really close attention to the live blogs of the Apple WWDC keynote is that when iOS 7 comes out Siri will be able to directly search Twitter, Wikipedia -- and Bing. From a search perspective that's potentially huge news. I'm speculating that you'll still be able to ask Siri to "search the web" and it will use whatever search engine you've chosen for Safari (still Google unless changed by the user). However Siri is now much more a legitimate "search engine" with Bing as the index. Integration of web search more directly in [...]

Bing's new inline search allows users to search directly from a webpage, word document or PDF file without having to open a Web browser. After highlighting a word or phrase, a user can click the Bing icon to receive search result previews in a separate window. [caption id="attachment_162364" align="aligncenter" width="347"] Bing's Inline Search[/caption] Bing Desktop also released a new real-time weather app, and updated their news a [...]

Bing Pushes To Build Marketshare Through “Bing It On” For Faster Airport Wifi

I got a surprise recently on my trip through Orange County's John Wayne Airport. When I tapped into the free wifi there, I was offered a "premium connection speed upgrade" if I took Bing's Bing It On challenge. It turns out Bing has been doing this in several airports since March. Bing told me: Bing began rolling this out in late March and it’s currently being offered in 13 airports.  As you experienced, as an exchange for people taking a few minutes to take the challenge, they receive free, upgraded premium Wi-Fi access while at the airport. The airports you'll currently find i [...]

Bing Ads Will Copycat Google AdWords Enhanced Campaigns With New Bid Adjustments

It shouldn't come as a surprise that Microsoft is adjusting the Bing Ads platform to play nicely with AdWords enhanced campaigns. The company said they would be making changes back in early April, and now they are providing specifics. Bing Ads has supported incremental bidding by geo-location, gender, age, day of the week or time of day for several years now. Today, Microsoft announced changes that bring those features in line with the functionality of bid adjustments in enhanced campaigns. The reality is, if advertisers can't easily import their AdWords campaigns, they are much less [...]

More Sitelink Performance Detail Coming To Bing Ads Reporting

To provide more insight into sitelink performance, Bing Ads reporting will soon include Click Type segmentation. The new Click Type check box will be pre-selected in the Ad Extension by Ad and Ad Extension by Keywords reports. Currently Ad Extension reports provide data on just the sitelink itself. By choosing Click Type, the reports will provide segmentation by both ad title and sitelink. A specific date has not been set for the release, but keep an eye out over the next week or so. [...]

Microsoft Search Ad Revenue Estimates Get Major Downgrade; Google Retains 74% U.S. Market Share [Report]

eMarketer has issued a major revision to its predictions for Microsoft's U.S. search ad revenue. The latest estimates peg Microsoft net search ad revenue at $660 million last year and $890 million this year, down substantially from the previous estimates of $1.41 billion last year and $1.84 billion expected this year. The downgrade is based on eMarketer's assessment of Microsoft's likely traffic acquisition costs (TAC), which appear to be substantially higher than previously estimated. The new revenue projections slice Microsoft's U.S. market share in half, from 9.3% to just 4.6%, due to th [...]

Bing Ads Now Has Time Saving, Pre-Formatted Excel Reports

This is one of those minor features that will bring a smile to any PPC manager's face. Microsoft has added Excel to the output options in the Bing Ads report center. But that's not the exciting part. What is exciting is the fact that upon downloading to Excel, reports are already formatted and set with column filters for easy sorting and pivot table and chart creation. There's no need to waste precious time tinkering with basic formatting -- deleting rows here, adding rows there, setting filters -- after each download in order to get reports ready for actual analysis. Here's an exam [...]

Bing “Re-Imagined” For Windows 8.1: More Beautiful, Comprehensive And Integrated

Windows 8.1 is intended to "fix" many of the perceived problems of Windows 8. However, for the Bing team, the release of Windows 8.1 offered a new opportunity to more deeply integrate Bing into the OS and provide a richer experience for users. With the new release, Bing becomes something more than a "search engine." It becomes a central utility and content discovery tool that offers a "re-imagined" experience. Bing will help users discover and organize information both on the PC and on the Web. It also finds personal content in the cloud. The notion is to both simplify and deepen the [...]

Bing Ads Pro Accreditation Exam Now In French, German And Portuguese

Microsoft is expanding the Bing Ads Accredited Professional Program to include three new languages. The "Pro Bingers" certification program is now offered in French, German and Brazilian Portuguese. Three new sites have been set up for each of the new languages. The sites include 29 training modules, an intro video and the exam in each localized language. Users who pass the free Bing Ads Accredited Professional exam can enroll in the Find a Pro Directory, designed to help clients find agencies and consultants to run their Bing Ads campaigns. Earlier this year, Microsoft added a languages [...]

Communicators, Take Note: The Deplorable State Of Social Search Is Changing

The rate at which people share information (profound and profane alike) on sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube is staggering. 137 million status updates per day appear on Facebook, 230 million tweets are shared per day on Twitter and 72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute -- all numbers which increase daily. No doubt, social media is alive and well. Social media properties have clearly made the processes of creating and sharing content a compelling activity for everyone. Yet the story is altogether different when it comes to retrieving content. Ever tried to search for [...]

After releasing a preview of the Bing sitemap plugin a few months ago, Bing is ready to officially launch the Bing XML Sitemap Plugin 1.0 to the public. This sitemap plugin allows webmasters to easily create XML sitemap files for their websites that can be submitted to Bing Webmaster Tools or other search engines. It works on both Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server and Apache HTTP Server. What has changed between the beta version released a few months ago and the release today? Automatically ping the search engines after each Sitemap update (currently ping Bing an [...]

Bing News Adds Visual Carousel & Searches Years Back (Not Just Two Weeks)

Bing announced they have added a new visual way to consume news on Bing News. Now, for searches on notable people, Bing will return an image carousel at the top. Plus, you will also see on the right-hand side of the page related people to the person you searched for. Here is an example of the image carousel on Bing News: This looks very similar to Google's knowledge graph carousel which launched in August of last year. Bing News also added the ability to see news results for queries that have no fresh news. If Bing News cannot find fresh content within the past two weeks, Bing [...]

Microsoft announced the launch of The Bing Ads Traffic Quality Resource Center today, a website designed to give advertisers and publishers visibility into the traffic quality protection systems of the Yahoo! Bing Network. The site includes sections that cover terminology, network protection methods, an overview of where ads on the Yahoo! Bing network will appear, as well as best practice resources for advertisers and publishers. Google has a similar service, the Ad Traffic Quality Resource, that launched in 2007. [...]

Bing Ads Gets New Filter Options, Search Query Reports, Appealable Ad Visibility & Keyword Competition Values
