The Great Fade Out? How The Search Engines Stack Up On Ad Backgrounds In SERPs

google-bing-yahoo-ad-colors-featured A few weeks ago, Barry Schwartz reported that Yahoo was testing ad background colors -- a pale green instead of pale blue. The search engines frequently test ad background colors in the SERPs. Google has tested blue, green, purple, and yellow variations. What struck me in looking at the Yahoo test, though, was how faint the background colors on both the test and control are. So, I decided to take a look at how Yahoo, Bing and Google are using background colors in the search results. The screen you're using can make a big difference in what you see. For example, looking at Yahoo results [...]

Finally, Auto-Tag Bing Ads URLs For Google Analytics: Bizible Debuts Free Tool

checkbox The ability to auto-tag destination URLs in Bing Ads has been one of top product requests for the platform for years now. Manual URL tagging is ire-inducing, error-prone and a real impediment to many advertisers even running campaigns on Bing Ads. If you use Google Analytics and don't tag your Bing Ads URLs, that traffic shows up as organic, and you lose insights into how your campaigns are performing post-click. Why Bing Ads hasn't addressed this problem, I honestly don't know -- especially considering the great effort they've put into the "Import from Google AdWords" functionality. Ent [...]

AdProof Ad copy testing is one of the foundation blocks of PPC campaign optimization. Tests cost as little as $1.00 to receive results within one day. An extra $5.00 includes user feedback. Experiments start with a keyword [...]

Search Engines Keep The Lights Out On Fireworks Ads, Mostly

fireworks-stand-featured Happy 4th of July! It's fireworks season here in the US, a time when online searches for "fireworks" skyrocket. Yet, ads for explosives and pyrotechnic devices like "firecrackers," "bottle rockets," and "fireworks" are not allowed per the advertising policies of Google and Bing -- and their respective search partners like AOL, Ask, Yahoo and DuckDuckGo. Sam Engle at BrandVerity took a look at how well the search engines are doing at enforcing their own rules during this peak season for festive explosives. Engle found a few ads that managed to get through. One ad for an Indiana-base [...]

Why You Should “Bing It On” In Your Online Marketing

Bing commercials have been running rampant on TV lately -- they have amped up their service and definitely have something to prove. Among other things, they're becoming increasingly integrated into Windows 8, possibly increasing public interest in Bing. For many people (online marketers in particular), there is a tendency to forget that Bing even exists -- after all, Google is the head honcho. But market shares are increasing for Bing, having recently risen to above 17%. Bing also has some great things to offer marketers. They currently have a lovely SEO Analyzer, for example, and have [...]

Now Live: Bing Ads Keyword Distribution Graph

After piloting the Keyword Distribution Graph in April, Bing has made its keyword performance visualization tool available to all Bing Ads users. The Keyword Distribution Graph is located under the keywords section in the Bing Ads Web interface. A drop down allows you to view aggregate keyword performance data in trend graphs or by the keyword distribution graphs as shown below. The tool is fun, addictive even. Bing Ads Will Copycat Google AdWords Enhanced Campaigns With New Bid Adjustments

bing-ads-featured It shouldn't come as a surprise that Microsoft is adjusting the Bing Ads platform to play nicely with AdWords enhanced campaigns. The company said they would be making changes back in early April, and now they are providing specifics. Bing Ads has supported incremental bidding by geo-location, gender, age, day of the week or time of day for several years now. Today, Microsoft announced changes that bring those features in line with the functionality of bid adjustments in enhanced campaigns. The reality is, if advertisers can't easily import their AdWords campaigns, they are much less [...]

Microsoft Search Ad Revenue Estimates Get Major Downgrade; Google Retains 74% U.S. Market Share [Report]

Bing Ads Now Has Time Saving, Pre-Formatted Excel Reports

bing-ads-square This is one of those minor features that will bring a smile to any PPC manager's face. Microsoft has added Excel to the output options in the Bing Ads report center. But that's not the exciting part. What is exciting is the fact that upon downloading to Excel, reports are already formatted and set with column filters for easy sorting and pivot table and chart creation. There's no need to waste precious time tinkering with basic formatting -- deleting rows here, adding rows there, setting filters -- after each download in order to get reports ready for actual analysis. Here's an exam [...]
