Bing Improves Tax Related Search Results Before April 15th

bing-600 Microsoft Bing has added new features to the Bing search results when you search for tax related queries. This is being done because Bing and other search engines see a huge increase in the number of tax related queries between January and April, i.e. before your taxes are due on April 15th. Bing now shows smarter results when you search for [tax forms], [IRS forms], or even specific forms like [irs form 1040]. Bing will show you the most searched-for forms as you type your query, show you where to mail your taxes or where to e-File, and links to download the necessary forms you searche [...]

Bing Tags Hangs It Up & Shuts Down

bing-600 Bing Tags, which launched two years ago as Bing Linked Pages and then renamed and did an expansion about a year ago, has hung up the project and shut down the feature. Bing closed down Bing Tags on June 14, 2013. A Microsoft spokesperson told us: We can confirm that beginning on June 14, 2013, Bing Public Tags were no longer available and all existing tags were removed from Bing. Most search engines are constantly testing new features, removing failed features and trying alternatives out all the time. It is not surprising to see this feature go away. What Was Bing Tags? The feature allo [...]

Bing’s Page Zero Offers Deep Links & Shortcuts To Relevant Information Straight From The Search Box

bing-2013-featured Today, Bing released a detailed overview of its Page Zero experience, a new search feature that delivers deep links directly from the search box with shortcuts to relevant information associated with the search term. According to the announcement, the new feature gives "best" auto-completion suggestions for a query, as well as displaying "rich information" related to the search term. Bing says the Satori technology that powers the Page Zero experience delivers relevant search information in the same amount of time it takes to blink, giving users a "Faster way to search" both from the Bin [...]

Bing Tests Sub Secondary Level Deep Links In Search Listings

bing-logo Bing is running an experiment with their deep links in the search results. Now Bing is testing displaying sub or secondary level deep links for some search results. That means that under a search listing that has deep links, you may see additional sub-level deep links beneath the main deep links. Here is a picture from @tecnonetblog: Bing recently experimented with deep links in the search box overlay. Bing Tests Deep Links Within Search Box Results

bing-logo-200 Aaron Wall shared a picture on Twitter of a new experiment Bing is trying out by showing deep links directly in the search box results. When possible, Bing likes to show answers and structured data directly as you type in their search box. But this is the first time I am seeing Bing show "deep links," also known as "sitelinks," in the search box. The picture above shows how the layout of the deep links show in the search box. You can see that it shows the main URL, with the title and description below. It then shows six deep links in boxes below that main result. This is all without [...]

Bing Updates Deep Links Management While Google Displays Up To Ten Sitelinks

bing-google-logos Microsoft Bing announced changes to the way they allow webmasters to manage their "deep links" in the search results, while Google has quietly added up to ten sitelinks for a navigational query. Bing Deep Links Update Vincent Wehren, Senior Program Manager at Bing Webmaster Tools, announced on the Bing Webmaster blog that they have updated the Deep Links management feature by removing features in order to make it more useful to webmasters. The features webmasters have access to now for managing "deep links" (Google calls them Sitelinks) include: Block a deep link URL from showing up anyw [...]

Bing: More Than 50% Of Searchers Click The First Result; 75% Click On Deep Links Result

bing-click-featured The value of ranking first on a search results page is no secret, but today Bing is putting some hard numbers on it: More than 50 percent of Bing users click the first result, and more than 75 percent click there if the first result includes Bing's deep links. In a blog post today, Dr. Ronny Kohavi of Bing's Research & Development team, shares some valuable data about how Bing users interact with search results. After the 50 percent of users that click the top result, Bing says that only about 4-6 percent click the third result (depending on if it's an Instant Answer or a regular web [...]

A Test, Not A Bug: Bing Deep Links To Facebook, eBay, Craigslist Under Google’s Search Result

bing-google-logos It looked like a screwup. If you searched for [google] on Bing, you saw Deep Links to Facebook, eBay and Craigslist underneath the main search result for Google. So, in my article earlier today, I called it a "strange bug" in Bing's search results. I was wrong. It wasn't a bug; it was a test that Bing was running and has now turned off. A Bing spokesperson confirmed for us this afternoon that this was no mistake. We're constantly updating and refining the Bing search experience to help people get things done more quickly. We are currently conducting tests on navigational links that will [...]

Strange Bug In Bing Deep Links Shows Facebook, Craigslist As Part Of Google

bing-logo-200 Google has deep pockets and probably would be happy if Facebook, eBay and Craigslist were part of its empire ... but last I checked, they're all separate companies. Nonetheless, links to those three sites are showing as Deep Links on Bing under the result when you search for [google]. The "Go to YouTube" link can at least be explained by the fact that Google owns YouTube; the others are clearly a bug, and one that I can't easily explain. That exact text -- "Go to Facebook," etc. -- doesn't show up anywhere on the page or in the source code when you do navigational searches [...]
