Bing Gets Its Own Knowledge Graph Via Britannica Partnership

Bing's search results are getting a bit more informational thanks to a new partnership with Encyclopedia Britannica. They're calling it "Britannica Online Encyclopedia Answers," and it adds extra information about a search result right within the search results page. As the screenshots below show, it looks quite a bit like Google's recently-launched Knowledge Graph feature, but there are some differences that I'll mention below. I've used red arrows to highlight one of the main differences with how Google presents this data and Bing's version -- Bing links out to several third-party [...]

It's not clear whether this is limited to China or will be used in other markets where English is spoken. We've asked Microsoft for some additional color and perspective. Baidu controls roughly 80 percent of the search market in China, according to several sources. Google is second with approximately 19 percent. A Bloomberg report suggests [...]

Researcher: Conduit Toolbar Deal Boosting Bing’s Paid Clicks By 10%

Bing's traffic acquisition deal with Conduit, the toolbar company that claims to work with 260,000 publishers and 200 million users, appears to be paying off, according to analysis from Rimm Kaufman Group (RKG). Senior research analyst Mark Ballard looked at traffic from Conduit to Rimm Kaufman Group clients from before the toolbar company switched to Bing from Google at the beginning of 2011. Toward the end of 2010, when Conduit was still with Google, Ballard writes, Conduit sent RKG clients paid search click traffic that was equivalent to 10 to 11% of total Bing.com paid search traffic. Why Bing+Yahoo Means 5% Less Organic Traffic

Bing is now powering Yahoo’s organic results, and retailers wonder how this algorithmic shift will impact their organic traffic with holiday season just around the corner. Market share trends all seem positive so where’s the beef? While I’m a fan of the direction Bing is taking, don’t expect this market shift to produce short-term organic search gains. In fact, I’m predicting a rather bearish short-term organic loss, particularly if you’ve been Google-centric in your optimization strategies, and if Yahoo has been driving 10% or more of your organic traffic historically. So get read [...]

Microsoft Extends Bing Search Deal With Facebook

The Bing Search Blog announced Microsoft has extended their search deal with Facebook. In addition to extending the search deal, as expected, Facebook will drop Microsoft on the display ad side of the deal. The extended search deal includes a more robust Bing search experience on Facebook. This includes "richer answers combined with tools that help customers make faster, smarter decisions," said Microsoft. Also, Bing will power Facebook search outside of the U.S., to all Facebook users, worldwide. This will bring Bing search in front of 400 million or more Facebook users - a big win for [...]

Facebook To Cut Some Microsoft Ads

paidContent.org is reporting Facebook and Microsoft are scaling back their ad relationship. Microsoft powered much of Facebook's display ad network. Facebook is no longer using Microsoft for their international display ads but might also drop them in the U.S. as well. Back in 2007, Microsoft invested $240 million in Facebook, and made an ad deal. The ad deal originally did not include search but soon later added Live Search to Facebook. Most these relationships do not last forever - so it will be interesting to see where Facebook goes from here. Do they continue a relationship w [...]
