I must begin with a disclaimer: I'm not a coder, a developer or a network admin. My use of regex is very entry-level, but what I'm about to share has worked well for me across a variety of platforms. I want to share three of these with you: Google Analytics, Screaming Frog and htaccess. Fundamentals Of Regular Expressions (Regex) Let's [...]

Learnings From SMX London: The Impact Of Social On Search

fire_shutterstock_31640122 SEOs and Social Marketers speculate on the impact that Social Media marketing has on how well their websites perform in search results. There has been much conjecture with many people interpreting an array of correlations as causation. Both Google's Matt Cutts and Bing's Duane Forrester have come out (on more than one occasion) to emphatically state that Facebook Likes, Tweets, Google +1s, Pinterest Pins and other similar social indicators are not part of their algorithms. At the recent SMX London on May 13, 2014, John Mueller of Google and Duane Forrester of Bing took the stage to talk [...]

Finding New Music On Bing Just Got Easier

bing-music-featured Bing announced today it has updated the way it delivers music video search results. According to the announcement, people search for music videos differently than when they are searching for other types of videos: When we examined search session data, we realized that when people search for music videos they tend to explore rather than finding what they were looking for and then moving on. Bing says its music video search experience was designed to reflect how people have historically experienced music. Now, when users perform a Bing video search for an artist, band or album, Bing deli [...]

Bing Ads Tweaks Its Tune: Desktop/Tablet Traffic To Be Combined, Adding Tablet Bid Modifier

bing-ads-600 [caption id="attachment_193329" align="alignright" width="259"] David Pann, Microsoft[/caption] You may recall last spring, Bing Ads issued a manifesto of sorts in response to Google's announcement of Enhanced Campaigns titled Advertisers Deserve Control: “We do not believe bundling mobile, desktop and tablet advertising together in an opaque manner is in the best interests of our customers.” In what would appear to be an about-face, Bing Ads announced Wednesday that it will begin lumping desktop and tablet traffic together, á la Google's Enhanced Campaigns. Bing Celebrates Its 5th Birthday With A Walk Down Memory Lane & Extra Search Reward Credits

Bing 5th Birthday To celebrate its 5th birthday today, Bing has posted a retrospective of the last five years and is offering Bing Reward credit perks for any users who search on the site between now and June 9. At Five Years Old, Bing Has Come Far Yet Has More To Grow

Bing 5th Birthday Microsoft's Bing search engine has turned five this week. There are good reasons for some birthday celebrations at Microsoft. The company has created a solid competitor to Google, grown its market share and created a search platform for other Microsoft products. But when it comes to mindshare, Bing is still far behind rivaling Google as a search leader. Give Bing A Week & You Might Think You Were At Google I know what some might be thinking. Bing's a solid competitor to Google? Bing certainly has had its stumbles. Every year, it seems like it redoes its search results pages in an at [...]

Put Big Data To Work To Build Better Search Ads

Bing Ads Ad Copy Variable Not too long ago, if I said “big data” to someone, I got a blank look in return. Now, big data is the topic du jour. That data comes from all manner of sources – credit card purchases, posts on social media sites, public records, mapping software on mobile phones, search-engine queries, weather sensors – you name it. Everywhere in the world, devices and pe [...]
