Pinterest Adds Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free & Paleo Filters For Recipe Related Searches

pinterest-icon-logo-250px Pinterest has updated its search features, making it possible to filter for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and paleo ingredients or recipes when performing food-related searches. According to the announcement, Pinterest is rolling out the new search feature on the web now, and has plans to bring it to its mobile site as well. Along with the new food-related search filters, the site has added an "Indulge Me" button to perform searches for "not so healthy" dessert recipes. To use the new search filters, users can search on a specific dish or ingredient, and then click "All recipes" to s [...]

Pinterest Beefs Up Its Search Chops With VisualGraph Acquisition

pinterest-search-featured Pinterest is looking to improve search and discovery on its website and mobile apps with the acquisition of a company called VisualGraph. It's a two-person company and both employees -- Kevin Jing and David Liu -- are starting at Pinterest today. In a statement confirming the acquisition, Pinterest says the acquisition "will help us build technology to better understand what people are Pinning. By doing so, we hope to make it easier for people to find the things they love." VisualGraph's technology connects images through things like face recognition, object recognition and shape/colo [...]

Brand Bias: 70% Of Consumers Look For Known Retailers When Doing Product Searches

google-brand-search-featured New research from Search Engine Land and SurveyMonkey shows that consumers have a definite brand bias when it comes to searching for products online. According to data from a survey conducted last month, almost 70 percent of US consumers said they look for a "Known retailer" when deciding what search results they click on. That was the most popular response, followed by "Free shipping" and then "Discount or sale offer." Respondents were able to choose up to three answers to the question, What is most important in helping you decide which results to click on in a search engine search? [...]

Bing Adds Pinterest Boards To Image Search

bing-logo-2013-200px If image search is important to your business, this might be another reason to be active on Pinterest: Bing has just added Pinterest boards to its image search results. The boards show up on the far right of Bing's image search results page. The board name and image count are displayed, along with the Pinterest user's account name (first image below). Clicking on one of the Pinterest board results leads to another page on Bing image search that shows almost the entire set of images from the Pinterest board, starting with a visible link to visit the board itself on Pinterest's website (se [...]

Search Your Own “Pins” On Pinterest

pinterest-search-featured Pinterest announced a new, useful search feature that allows you to filter your search results to just your own Pins. You can now search for images that you've pinned and filter out all the other search results from other users of Pinterest. Can't remember an image you've uploaded? Just search for it and Pinterest should locate it for you. Pinterest's Software Engineer, Hui Xu said this is designed to help you "rediscover stuff you’ve pinned." This is rolling out now, although I personally do not see it yet. Pinterest also promises to enable this search feature on mobile "soon." [...]

Sorry, BuzzFeed: Pinterest Isn’t A Better Search Engine Than Google

Pinterest I went on a BuzzFeed diet about a month ago, where I stopped following the site and reading the content there. I should have stuck to it, because I wouldn't be wasting my time now dissecting one of its stupid, pageview-baiting stories. In this one, Pinterest is positioned as a better search engine than Google. The story runs through 10 examples illustrating how Pinterest "beats" Google "nine out of ten times." But despite the headline, these aren't examples of Pinterest being a better search engine than Google. They're examples of Pinterest supposedly being a better image search engine than [...]
