Google Says They Won’t Ask For Help In China To Compete

In Google sticks to solo plans from the Shanghai Daily, Google said it won't work with a local partner in China to gain marketshare. Google's vice president of China operations, Kai-fu Lee said that they "have confidence in our current approach" in China. Currently, Baidu has 50 percent share in China, compared to Google's 16 percent share, according to one estimate. Baidu's share is expected to increase, while Google is expected to remain flat. Microsoft China To Display Baidu’s Search Ads

MarketWatch reports that Microsoft and Baidu struck a deal where Baidu will be powering the paid search ads at Microsoft's MSN, Live.com and other China based services. Baidu Launches Blog Search Engine In China

People's Daily Online reports Baidu has launched a blog search engine in China yesterday. The blog search engine is the first of its kind in China. Yu Jun, a senior executive with Baidu, said the service was based on a database of billions of websites, including all the blogs supported by Chinese blog service providers and individual blog websites. Google Battling Baidu for Searchers in China and Japan

The Chicago Tribune took a close and thoughtful look at the search engine market in China, in Baidu vs. Google this weekend (free user registration required).
