“NORAD Tracks Santa” Is Back With Bing For 2013 & Will Santa Tracking Match At Google?

santa-bing-featured It's official. NORAD Tracks Santa, the annual Santa tracking effort run by the joint US-Canadian air defense organization, will be using Microsoft's Bing for the second year to map Santa's route. But will Google be mapping Santa on a different route, as happened when it ran its own breakaway tracking service last year? There's hope of perhaps a "Miracle On 34th Street" moment that may prevent this. No One Tells Santa Where To Fly Let's be clear about one thing. Santa Claus flies wherever Santa wants to fly. NORAD doesn't control his route. Google doesn't control it. No one but Santa does. Al [...]

NORAD Santa Tracker 2009 Goes Live

I have a long history loving and writing about that classic tradition, the NORAD Santa Tracker service. It's just gone live for those who are ready to start searching for St. Nick. While you won't actually get to track him until Christmas Eve, there are resources at the site now. Either I or someone else here at Search Engine Land will update this post with a deeper review, but my understanding from Google -- which coproduces the site -- is that everything is virtually the same as last year. The main difference is that there will be a plug-in for Google Earth on the web you can use, rather [...]

Instructions On Tracking Santa With NORAD & Google: The 2007 Edition

I'm a serious Santa Claus tracker. When I was a kid, I used to get Santa updates from NORAD (the US missile tracking people) via the radio. As an adult, I've long used the NORAD Tracks Santa web site to keep up with St. Nick, Father Christmas, or whatever your local name is for the jolly red suited man. This year, Google officially partnered with NORAD, bringing the NORAD Santa tracking site some of its most substantial changes in years. Some of the changes I like, and some make me think I wish Google had stayed out of it. Here's how to use the site, what's different, and what's cool. NO [...]

Tracking Santa Through NORAD & Google Earth

I love to track Santa courtesy of NORAD, the North American Air Defense Command. I did a post on my personal blog last year, Tracking Santa Through The NORAD Web Site, talking about how I moved from listening to Santa's location on the radio to monitoring him with my kids on the web. Gary Price tipped me to the news that the NORAD Tracks Santa 2006 site is now up. Can't wait for him in flight? Nathan over at InsideGoogle highlighted an official Google blog post about how you can find presents he's left behind in Google Earth and then track him in the software on Christmas Eve. More info o [...]
