Link Building Outside The Box: Outreach & Content Refreshing

Screen Shot 2013-07-22 at 12.37.34 PM Link building is a staple of most SEO campaigns. Some methods are scalable and automated, while others are similar to old-school public relations. One thing most can agree on is that methods always need to adapt to keep up with opportunity and algorithm changes. Building Links With Content Google has made it harder to build links without content. Many links without surrounding context have gotten devalued, leaving many SEOs to adopt the "content is king" mantra into their link building world. Guest posts are flying into the hands of prospects, link bait is being created by the ton, and br [...]

Majestic SEO Takes Their Site Explorer Tool Free

majestic-seo-logo-1 The Majestic SEO team announced today that they have made their Site Explorer tool free for verified domains. With that, they also announced improvements to the user interface, additional features and unlimited use for paid users of the tool. Dixon Jones from Majestic SEO said that 2,500 links will provide smaller business with all of their "important link data." They can also get the new links the site acquired on a daily basis. Plus, the tool will show you which old links are [...]

Majestic SEO Link Reports Now Updated Within Hours

majestic-hours Majestic SEO, one of the advanced SEO third party link reporting services, announced they are now updating their linkage data to be as fresh as within hours or minutes. Instead of waiting 24 hours for the link reports to update, Majestic SEO is pushing updates throughout the day, almost hourly, so webmasters can see new links to their content sooner. Majestic SEO says this is important when you want to track the progress of acquired links to new viral content or other content that may have a seasonal appeal. Currently, this is only visibile on the main site explorer reporting engine. [...]

Must-Have Browser Tools For Link Builders

Of all the tasks associated with content advocacy (I have never actually liked the term link building, and my business card has never included those words, plus doesn't 'content advocacy' just sound better than link building?), there are a few tasks that are a genuine PITA. There have been many tools created to help manage the processes of link building content advocacy. Most of the tools are designed to help analyze backlinks, help pre-define link prospecting query strings,  provide some sort of page scoring, or identify a contact address. Some tools are costly, some are free. There have [...]

Majestic SEO Announces New Link Metrics: Trust Flow & Citation Flow

Majestic SEO announced a new set of link metrics they came up with that should give Google's PageRank metric and SEOmoz's MozRank a run for their money. Majestic SEO's new metrics are named Flow Metrics and are grouped into two categories; trust flow and citation flow. Citation Flow is a number of predicting how influential a URL might be based on how many sites link to it. Trust Flow is a number predicting how trustworthy a page is based on how trustworthy sites tend to link to trustworthy neighbors. What Do Flow Metrics Look Like? Let's compare Search Engine Land to Search E [...]

Link Building Tool Review: Majestic SEO

Next up in our tool review series is Majestic SEO's suite. There are 4 levels of access with one being free (and limited) and the others being grouped by the amount of reports/access to their API needed. (Note: the free package may still require you to register in order to see a fuller dataset.) Paid plans range from £29.99 to £250.00 per month, excluding VAT (and for those of you not familiar with VAT, it's a value-added tax on the purchase price.) For our purposes here in Link Week, I'll be reviewing the Site Explorer, Backlink History, Neighbourhood Checker, and Clique Hunter. Basic [...]

Link Building Tool Review: SEO Book

For many search marketers, SEO Book is a legend. Founded by (another legend) Aaron Wall in 2003, SEO Book now includes Aaron's wife Giovanna Villanueva, Peter Da Vanzo, and Eric Covino. Membership works out to around $10 a day ($300 a month) and includes over 100 custom training modules, a private forum, exclusive members-only tools, and much more. There are also free tools available including the ubiquitous SEO for Firefox. If you click on the SEO Tools link on the topnav, you'll see a list of both free and paid tools. However, other pages on the site did lead me to a few other tools not [...]

Majestic OpenApps – An Easier Way To Access Majestic SEO Data

Majestic SEO announced a new way to access data from the Majestic SEO tool. In short, it provides an easier way to get data from the tool over using the their API. Majestic SEO is a popular tool used by SEOs for competitive link analysis. The main alternatives to the tool include SEOmoz's LinkScape, RankAbove's SEO Drive and the soon defunct Yahoo Site Explorer, amongst others. The OpenApps feature allows developers and third-parties to build modules on the data. It allows developers to build modules to let their users request data from the Majestic SEO toolset. It is available to " [...]

New Link Diagnosis Update Fixes What Was Broken

The team behind Link Diagnosis has announced a list of updates to their popular link analysis/SEO tool. Two of the updates, in particular, provide a fix for a pair of disappointing features that I wrote about last year when Link Diagnosis completed a major relaunch. First, the result sets have been expanded from 100 to 1,000 pages. At its relaunch last September, the tool only analyzed the top 101 indexed pages from a domain. Second, Link Diagnosis now shows all inbound links from a single site. The September relaunch limited site owners to seeing only one inbound link from each domain. [...]

SEOmoz Launches Open Site Explorer, A Competitor (Replacement?) To Yahoo Site Explorer

SEOmoz has launched Open Site Explorer, a new tool that joins the already crowded field of link analysis tools. In choosing that name, SEOmoz is somewhat blatantly positioning it as a competitor, and perhaps eventual replacement, for Yahoo's popular Site Explorer tool. Open Site Explorer provides a number of data points pulled from SEOmoz's Linkscape tool and its index of the web. It shows stats such as overall link counts and a count of domains that link to a URL, along with anchor text distribution and more. A helpful feature is the ability to compare two domains side by side. Alth [...]

SearchDNA Joins Crowded Field Of Link Analysis Tools

At SMX East today, Linkdex is introducing its new SearchDNA tool -- a link analysis tool that the company says goes deeper than the already crowded field that it's competing against. While some link tools only show up to 1,000 links (think Yahoo Site Explorer), Linkdex says SearchDNA has a database of about one trillion links. It gets that data via a partnership with Majestic SEO, which also offers its own link analysis tools. So, what makes SearchDNA different if they're using the same data? According to Linkdex CEO John Straw, SearchDNA goes beyond compiling a list of links and doe [...]

Link Diagnosis Launches New Tool: A Review

Link Diagnosis, one of the most well-known link analysis tools around, has new owners, a new look, and some fairly substantial changes under the hood. But are all the changes an improvement? Well, after testing a beta version for a few days, and now using the new site that launched today, my answer is ... yes and no. Some of the changes add value to what Link Diagnosis offers, but others may leave you wanting to use the old version again. (And you can; more on that below.) What's New Obviously, the look and feel is the first change you'll notice. The new Link Diagnosis sports a more mod [...]
