Facebook Passes Google (Again) As Most-Visited US Site: Hitwise

Facebook.com was the most-visited web site in the U.S. last week, surpassing even Google.com. And this is not the first time it's happened. According to Experian Hitwise, Facebook.com received 7.07% of all internet visits during the week that ended on March 13th, with Google getting 7.03%. This compares visits between the two main domains -- Facebook.com and Google.com. When this first happened over the holidays, we explained that the numbers don't include other Google properties like Google News. Google Is Bing’s 4th Largest Referring Source

What sites send Bing the most traffic? Here's a surprise. According to Hitwise, Google is Bing's fourth largest referring source. Below are the top five sites that drive traffic to Bing, or "upstream" to Bing, as Hitwise calls it: MSN is by far the top source, the last site visited by 42.7% of Bing users before they went to Bing. That's not surprising. MSN -- Microsoft's portal -- has long been a huge search driver for Microsoft. In fact, the company recently said that half of all Bing queries come from MSN. Bing’s Market Share Up For Third Straight Month: Hitwise

Just last week at SMX West, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said his short-term goal for Bing is to gain a point here or a tenth there -- to chip away and slowly increase its share of the search market. The latest numbers from Experian Hitwise show that Bing is doing exactly that. Hitwise shows Bing gaining share for the third straight month, and its 9.7% share of searches in February was up 4% over its January numbers. For the month, Google dropped slightly and Yahoo remained static. That's two consecutive months of slight drops for Google, according to the Hitwise numbers. Greg Ster [...]

VentureBeat reports Twitter has increased their traffic by 9 percent from December to January. After deeper insight from ComScore and Hitwise, it appears that most, if not all, came from Google. When Google added real-time results to their search interface in December, it had a major impact on people discovering Tweets in the search results. Google will show real time results from Twitter and other sites based on if that is a trending (hot) query. Key Stats: ComScore data show the number of unique visitors to Twitter increased by 9 percent from December 2009 to January 2010 Data from [...]

Hitwise Announces January Search Market Share Numbers

The latest market share numbers from Experian Hitwise are out, and they look a lot like the numbers did back in November. Here's the new chart covering market share for the month of January: As you see, Google and Yahoo dropped slightly from December, while Bing gained month-to-month. But if you go back a couple months, what you'll see is that Google and Bing both returned to numbers that were very similar to two months ago. Here's the chart from November: So, while Bing looks good with a 5% gain from December to January ... the January number is barely better than back in Novemb [...]
