Yahoo's massive new headquarters plan approved from MarketWatch reports Yahoo can now build enough buildings to house most of their existing worldwide employees, all in Silicon Valley. Tuesday night the Santa Clara City Council unanimously voted to approve Yahoo's development plan for thirteen six-story buildings. The buildings will be about 10 miles away from the Googleplex and be large enough to fit 12,000 employees. Yahoo currently has under 14,000 employees worldwide. Yahoo Compels Employees to Take Extended Holiday

According to the Wall Street Journal Yahoo is compelling most employees to take the week after Xmas off, using vacation or unpaid leave. It is also shutting down offices until after January 1. The move is an effort to save money. Yahoo employees over the past few years have been "encouraged" but until now not required to take the time off. According to Yahoo spokeswoman Dana Lengkeek "essential functions" will remain staffed during the period. Beyond "customer support" it's not clear what those roles are from the article. Yahoo “It Was You” Protest: French Engineers Go On Strike

Yahoo engineers in France went on strike and protested yesterday over Carol Bartz wanting to close down the R&D center in Grenoble and ultimately putting 78 engineers out of work. Some of these protestors created a web site named Yahoo It Was You on a Google owned Blogspot, as a way to mock Yahoo's "Its You" campaign. Google Seattle Celebrates A Birthday And Opens A New Office

Steve Yegge, an engineer at the Google Kirkland office, recently posted to the Google blog about the Kirkland office's third birthday. He also announced the opening of an engineering office in Fremont. Both locations are in the Seattle area -- Fremont is just north of downtown and Kirkland is across the floating bridge on the east side (near another company you may have heard of called Microsoft). Yahoo Setting Up Shop Next Door To Microsoft’s Headquarters

Confirmed: Yahoo expanding to Microsoft's backyard from SeattlePi has confirmed reports that Yahoo has signed a lease on Bellevue's One Twelfth @ Twelfth complex for 115,000 square feet. The new office can potentially fit between 500 to 600 employees. It appears Yahoo is hiring software engineers for the Bellevue location. This is Yahoo's first large presence in Seattle.
