Other key factors? Transparency, storytelling, responsiveness… you must be agile and flexible in your social marketing efforts, because it literally takes just seconds for people to respond to any content or messaging you produce. This is especially true if you’re responding to trouble or angry customers. Do it right, and people will be grateful, earning you precious “goodwill ROI.” Do it wrong… well, we’ve all heard stories about social media disasters and the long-term damage inflicted on companies and brands.

Although Facebook and Twitter are relatively “simple” and easy for just about anyone to use, the nuances of what you do and how you do it can be subtle, making the difference between people liking your brand, product or service, or becoming a negative voice that can spread like wildfire through the densely populated world of social media.
