offers.com logoIn light of the current economy, Vertive, Inc., is banking on now being the right time to launch a new search engine for coupons and deals. It’s called Offers.com, and it enters an already crowded space of coupons/deals sites.

Offers.com provides coupons and deals from more than 1,000 merchants, and classifies them by product or service into more than 150 categories. Offers are further organized into deals, coupon codes, free trials, and the like. The company hopes that its “My Offers Locker” tool will set it apart from competitors like DealNews, Slickdeals, and the numerous other sites that track hot deals and coupons. My Offers Locker allows users to store and manage their favorite offers and/or merchants.

Despite the crowd of sites in this category, the timing could be right. Just last week I wrote about new comScore numbers showing that searchers for “coupons” and other terms related to today’s economic struggles were up significantly in 2008.
