Powered By Nokia, Yandex Rolls Out Maps Of US And Europe
Yandex says that its maps have an audience of 16.5 million on the PC and an additional 6.6 million users in mobile. Most of these users are concentrated in Eastern Europe.
In addition to the new Turkish, European and North American maps, Yandex currently offers maps for Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus:
The users of Yandex.Maps in these countries can search for businesses and POIs (including locations nearby), find and plan routes using a street address, view current traffic with the short-term and long-term forecasts, use a turn-by-turn navigator (available as a mobile app), learn about the local public transport routes, see panoramic street views and even flag down the closest taxi.
In January of this year Yandex announced that it had licensed “highly detailed maps of Europe, North America, Australia and developed countries in Asia” from Nokia. Yandex, Bing and Yahoo are all now using Nokia maps and/or data. Yandex in turn makes the maps and data available to third party developers through an API.
Recently Apple partnered with Yandex to provide maps for the iPhone in Russia.
