My, we were a feisty bunch last week. Now that it is all out of our system, let’s look to a bit more benign gossip from the rumor mill

For the football fans out there, here’s some water cooler conversation for the off season: last week’s New York Times ran a piece on Tim Armstrong’s involvement with Bill Hambrecht’s quest to build an alternative to the NFL.

“Bill Hambrecht, you see, is starting up a professional football league. So far, he and his partner, Tim Armstrong, a senior executive at Google, have pledged $2 million each…They’ve got a name” the United Football League. And they’ve lined up a wealthy, well-known businessman as their first owner: Mark Cuban, the billionaire who owns the N.B.A.s Dallas Mavericks”

I guess that’s one way to spend your dollars.

Another way is to pick up Facebook, as John Battelle ponders. Will Yahoo! finally score a win? Or will it be another sucker punch from Google?

To wrap up the week, Amazon is rumored to be looking at Netflix, sending the latter’s stock up yesterday.

If you’re still hungry for more, check out Guy Kawasaki’s rumor site, truemors.
