Searcharazzi - A Column From Search Engine Land

Ever since Caltech graduate student Virgil Griffith launched Wiki Scanner, it has been nonstop fun freaking out PR people everywhere. While Wired’s list of salacious edits has everyone abuzz, Searcharazzi still enjoys good, old-fashioned wiki sleuthing, as brought to our attention yesterday.

Apparently someone representing FAST Search & Transfer has been modifying facts regarding the firm’s recent and well-documented revenue recognition problems. So here you go folks, straight from the Talk:Fast Search & Transfer page on Wikipedia, we have an Appalachian-style wiki feud in the making, right down to the spelling.

“Would the vandal or PR person removing information from these pages please stop. It is a matter of record that FAST had a share price crash of 28% when they made a statment that they had needed to change their accounting approaches. The press release is on the comapny site. This is a meterial piece of information about the company.”

Can’t we all just get along?

One Comment on Searcharazzi: Salacious Wiki Edits to FAST Search & Transfer

autonomy,

Interesting. Check out the history of the “edit war” and you’ll see the person who started it has an IP address of 86.141.169.167 – a UK-based IP – gee, I wonder if Autonomy is up to this? HA!
