Jailed Chinese reporter sues Yahoo over his imprisonment from the International Herald Tribune reports Shi Tao, the Chinese reporter who was sentenced to jail allegedly because Yahoo Hong Kong and Yahoo China sent an email to the Chinese government that led to his arrest, has joined a US lawsuit against Yahoo.
Yahoo admitted to handing over the email to the Chinese government. Yahoo claimed they had to or otherwise face civil and criminal sanctions in China for not complying.
The lawsuit is against Yahoo Inc., and claims that they helped the Chinese government convict dissidents, including Shi Tao, who was sentenced to prison for 10 years in prison in 2005.
