Last night, there was some buzz and commotion over Twitter adding ads to the web interface. The screen shot provided here shows how Twitter is promoting Twitter Search, so technically, this might not be an advertisement but it shows how Twitter may be able to monetize the interface with text ads.
I personally always envisioned Twitter showing a Tweet ad in the Twitter stream, as a way of monetizing the service. I personally would be okay with such monetization efforts if it was done every 15 minutes or so. Offering a paid membership option to turn off the ads, would be something I think is fair. Having the ad space just under the profile is a nice place for ads to go as well, but many people don’t even bother going to Twitter, since there are many Twitter clients that use the API.
