Upcoming Search Marketing Conferences: March-June 2008

Doing your forward planning for the year? Google’s Matt Cutts is, and this week, he posted where he’s speaking over the next few weeks. In a similar vein, I thought it would be nice to list some of the upcoming search marketing events happening in the coming months:

  • SMX West, Feb. 26-28: OK, it’s not in March — but next week, this is our big three-day search marketing conference in Silicon Valley, at the Santa Clara Convention Center. You can still book early to save over buying tickets at the door.

  • SearchFest, March 10: Returning to Portland, this is a great low-cost event especially designed for locals and pulling in a great line-up of speakers

  • Does my CEO Really need a Facebook Profile?, March 11: Hey, you don’t have to travel! This is a free online webcast from our sister site Search Marketing Now and conducted by Search Engine Land’s own Vanessa Fox.

  • ad:tech Sydney, March 12-13: The online and interactive marketing event heads to Australia.

  • Online Marketing Spain, March 12-13: In Madrid, two days of online marketing covered during the show.

  • SES New York, March 17-20:SES returns to New York with a variety of keynotes.
    &nbsp
  • Ad Age Digitial Marketing Conference, March 18-19: Happening in New York, search is part of this event. "The Search" author John Battelle is moderating one panel, and I’ll be doing a session on search for advertisers on the second day.
    &nbsp
  • ad:tech Paris, April 7-8: This time, it’s France for ad:tech.

  • SMX Munich, April 8-9: Rising Media’s Matt Finley has long produced search marketing events in Germany. We worked together on the very first one there. Our partnership continues as he, along with a team of German search marketers, produces our first German SMX event.

  • SES Hamburg, April 10-11: SES jumps from Munich for its German event.

  • SMX Sydney, April 10-11: I’m looking forward to getting back to Australia for our first SMX event down under! Barry Smyth, who has been running events there since 2006, has put together a great agenda in our partnership for SMX Sydney. I’ll be doing a keynote, as will Google’s Marissa Mayer.

  • ad:tech San Francisco, April 15-17: The online and interactive marketing event spends three days in California.

  • SMX China @ Timev (Xiamen), April 18-19: Timev, which has worked with our own Chris Sherman over the past years to produce search marketing events in China, continues that partnership with SMX China @ Timev.

  • Domain Roundtable, April 18-22: I’ve heard rave reviews about this domaining show, so if you’re looking to get up to speed, check it out.

  • Small Business Marketing Unleashed, April 22-23: Search Engine Guide editor Jennifer Laycock is the driving force behind this show, which she’s especially designed to be less a big conference and more a small, accessible training-style event. She’s just done a fun YouTube video that explains it more.

  • SMX Social, April 22-23: Our SMX Social show was a huge hit in New York, so we’re running an encore presentation in Long Beach, California. Jimmy Wales from Wikia Search; Jason Calacanis from Mahalo, and Eurekster are all set for a special "Social Search: The Human Challengers" keynote discussion at the end of the day.

  • Web 2.0, April 22-25: Not a search marketing show, but you can expect search to be part of the discussions. I’m going to try and make it up for the last half after I finish with SMX Social.

  • Search Engine Meeting, April 28-29: Infonortics runs its venerable event about search retrieval back in Boston.

  • SMX Madrid, May 20-21, 2008: The folks at OME have been running search marketing shows in Spain for years, and we’re thrilled to be working with them for the first SMX show to come to the country. I’ll be making it out to this one, myself!

  • Traffic Orlando, May 20-24: Another domaining conference I’ve heard lots of good reviews about, making it to Florida.

  • International Search Summit, May 22: Held in the UK, this looks at search marketing from an international perspective.
  • SES Milan Forum, May 27-28: SES returns to Italy under the new "forum" format.

  • SMX Advanced, June 3-4: SMX Advanced launched our SMX conference series last year and completely sold out. We’re sticking with the limited seating format again, back at the beautiful Bell Harbor in Seattle, so get moving! Currently, you can get discounted pre-agenda pricing. This is a show specifically for search marketing experts.

  • ad:tech Miami, June 3-4: Florida plays host to ad:tech.

  • SES Toronto, June 17-18: Search marketing vet Andrew Goodman takes the helm of SES on its return to Canada.

To keep up on events, I list a variety of conference sites in our Search Engine Land blogroll. Among these are the Expocal events calendar that WebmasterWorld’s Brett Tabke maintains. SEOmoz also recently launched an events calendar here, which I’ll get added to my list soon. Check them both out!
