Thanks for this post. Really nice overview over SEO-Tools. What do you think about Sistrix, Searchmetrics and Piwik?

  • Jon Clark

Great list, Ian! In addition to the link tracking tools you mentioned, I would suggest Cognitive SEO. Not well known but aggregates data in an easy to read dashboard and has a very low monthly cost. It’s saved our agency a lot of time in data analysis.

Thanks Jon – I’ll check it out.

Piwik isn’t quite enough for the enterprise just yet. It’s a great program but has a few rough edges, and it’d be hard to get most IT teams to install it. It IS a great piece of software, though.

I haven’t used Sistrix and Searchmetrics enough to form an opinion yet, but both look interesting. Sistrix’s claim of being the ‘most senior SEO toolbox’ when they started in 2008 bugs me a little bit, though.

SEOMOZ is a bit different from Raven. Raven aggregates data from a number of different sources, including MajesticSEO (an SEOMOZ competitor). SEOMOZ has their own link data index and crawler, and doesn’t aggregate anything.

I love SEOMOZ but if you can only choose one, I’d go with Raven, because you’ll get a lot more features.

    Great post!
I guess you forgot Semrush.com … It’s also a nice analytics tool for adwords as well as organic keywords tracking.

Oofta! That’s one heck of a list! I use several of these tools but a few I’ve not heard of. I love learning about new stuff to play with. Thanks!

Conductor is more SEO-centric, while BrightEdge is more attractive for SEM.

Does anyone have any experience with SEO PowerSuite and if so what are your opinions on that package for Enterprise use?

  • John Shea

Nice summary Ian. This might be out of your intended scope but I’d love your thoughts on content production tools as well?

IMO, there has been some nice innovation in this area. Some of the best content production platforms have consolidated many of the functions outlined above (rank reporting, keyword research, charting, analytics etc..) and made them directly actionable by enabling responsive content creation, publishing and social promotion all within the same tool.
Disclosure: I work for one of these companies – http://www.Skyword.com.
