Will Obama Be The Downfall Of Google?

Is Google going to face a monopoly investigation? from The Guardian asks if President Obama’s appointment of Christine Varney to be Assistant Attorney General for Antitrust at the United States Department of Justice will ultimately lead to more antitrust problems for Google.

Varney has been quoted as saying and believing that Google “has acquired a monopoly in internet online advertising.” Google already ended the Yahoo search deal in order to avoid monopolistic acquisitions and legal issues. So, will we see the Department of Justice go after Google for other monopolistic activities? That is the question.

At the same time, we also know Google has influence in the oval office, both contributing significant money to Obama’s political race and the CEO personally endorsing Obama early on.

Personally, and I am not a legal or political expert, I don’t see any legal action hitting Google from the DoJ in the near future over monopoly accusations.

ONE COMMENT ON Will Obama Be The Downfall Of Google?

olivieramar,

I don’t think Obama wants to start that war. Opening up a front with Google could be very bad for Obama on too many levels. The only supporters would be Yahoo and MSN and that’s never a good sign.I think unless they cross the 70% mark, everyone will stay quiet. After that, well, who knows.
