Today’s Google logo kicks-off the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament.
The animated logo on Google’s homepage begins with an the word “Google” in an alternative font to the logo’s usual typography and a soccer ball (or football, if you’re from outside the US) bouncing across the screen. The Google letters transition into World Cup players as the background unfolds to reveal Rio De Janerio, the Brazilian capital where this year’s tournament is being held.
The illustration includes Rio De Janerio’s city landscape, with cable cars traveling up to Sugarloaf Mountain, a rotating sun, and the city’s famed Christ the Redeemer statue standing atop Corcovado Mountain.
Google has included a link to share the illustration on Facebook, Twitter and Google+, and clicking on the logo delivers search results for “World Cup 2014.”
