It's a nice jab at Google, as if to say "Hey, in case you want an ACCURATE inbound link count, here it is," and it also positions Yahoo as a more socially-oriented engine, since these badgy things have typically been offered by sites like Technorati. As you said at SER, it's a great way to (re)introduce people to YSE, which, if nothing else, might get people thinking about Yahoo as a search engine again. I sort of like it, and I can appreciate Yahoo’s motives in doing it.
