Google abruptly ended its contract with Appen; as a result thousands of contractors responsible for measuring the quality of its search results will be axed. 

Even though how well websites rank isn’t directly affected by search quality raters, some people are worried about what this decision might mean for the future quality of Google searches. 

Whether it’s a misstep on Google’s part or a clever AI solution, only time will tell.
