Apple Shuts Down Topsy & Redirects It To iOS Search Help Page
Without warning or explanation, Apple has closed down Topsy, the once-popular Twitter search engine.
Apple has quietly shut down Topsy, the leading Twitter search engine back in the day, two years after acquiring the search engine.
Topsy announced it on Twitter, saying, “We’ve searched our last tweet.”
Now, when you go to Topsy.com, you are redirected to the how to search on iOS help page. It is a clear and simple 301 redirect to an old help page on Apple’s help resource.
There is no message about Topsy being closed, and there is no apology or explanation on the closure. There is nothing about Topsy at all on that Apple help page. All it does is confuse the searcher who is looking for a Twitter search engine or wants to learn how to search on their iOS device.
You can learn a lot more about Topsy in our coverage of them over the years. Plus you can see the other coverage of Topsy being taken offline on Techmeme.
