Mobile Marketing: App Indexing & Search

App indexing, app linking and deep links are among the terms used for efforts meant to allow people to move between search results and apps.

Google App Indexing is designed to allow people to click from listings in Google’s search results into apps on their Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. To learn more about it, see our Google App Indexing category.

Bing App Linking is like Google App Indexing, allowing people to click from listings at Bing directly to apps on Windows devices. Bing is also working on support for Android and iOS. To learn more, see our Bing App Linking category.

Apple App Search & Universal Links is also similar to Google, allowing developers to feed information from apps into Spotlight and Safari search. Using Universal Links, people can then click from results directly into apps. To learn more, see our Apple App Search & Universal Links category.

Facebook App Links isn’t a search effort but can support search. It’s also more accurately called just App Links. It’s a Facebook-backed effort to allow people to follow links between apps in the same way they jump between web pages. Bing leverages App Links for its Bing App Linking system.
