Google is trying out a new search box that displays under the first search result.
Right now, Google’s first search result often includes a search box that lets users search within that first search result, as shown here for Microsoft.com:
According to a report on Google Operating System blog, the new search box is larger and offers a list of search suggestions as you type.
Going beyond the current navigational search box like the one shown above, the new search box displays below the first search result, and does a full Google search versus searching only within the first result.

From Google Operating System’s test searches, the new search box appears to make an exception for Amazon searches, using Amazon’s internal search versus a Google search:
