Google has replaced First Input Delay (FID) with Interaction to Next Paint (INP) as a Core Web Vitals metric today.
This should come as no surprise as Google has been telling us this would happen for several months. Google just felt INP was a better metric than FID for a measurement of page responsiveness.
It is super important to note that Google Core Web Vitals has absolutely nothing to do with Google’s Core updates. In fact, the Core Web Vitals metrics have very little to no influence on your rankings in the Google search results, whereas Google Core updates can have a massive impact on the Google search results.
I dig deeper into what changes and what it means in our story over here.
