Jamie Indigo, an absolutely brilliant technical SEO expert, yesterday shared on LinkedIn something interesting she found when searching [site:google.com mum]. A Google News link that redirects to a 2022 Search Engine Land article written by Olaf Kopp (Google MUM update: What can SEOs expect in the future?). 

This had a few SEOs wondering what it meant. Leave it to SEO Keith Goode to come up with the ultimate SEO conspiracy theory: “And with that, after years and years disguised as a Googler, [Danny Sullivan]’s endgame is realized. All old Google news will now redirect to SEL.😜 😝 🤣”

That would indeed be some next-level link building! (In case you didn’t know, Sullivan co-founded Search Engine Land and ran editorial here for a decade before departing and becoming Google’s Search Liaison.)
